* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has expressed profound sadness on the death of Lieutenant General Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, Chief of Army Staff of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, on Tuesday at the age of 56.
In his condolence message, Governor Soludo extended his deepest condolences to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, the Nigerian Army, and the bereaved family of the late General Lagbaja on this irreparable loss.
The Governor further described General Lagbaja’s untimely departure at the age of 56 as a huge loss to the Nigerian Army and the nation in general.
Soludo reiterated that General Lagbaja’s distinguished military career, marked by his exceptional service and dedication to our nation’s security, serves as a tribute to his uncompromising commitment to Nigeria’s unity and progress.
* Anambra State Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Obono Itam has urge residents, community leaders, and stakeholders to collaborate in prioritizing security efforts in the region and reaffirms the commitment of the Police and other security agencies.
CP Item as part of ongoing efforts to assess and enhance security across Anambra State’s twenty-one Local Government Areas, convened a strategic meeting on November 6, 2024, with key leaders of Idemili North Local Government Area.
The gathering, held at the Ogidi Divisional Police Headquarters, included Chairman Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, traditional rulers, community presidents, members of the Anambra Vigilante, the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), and other stakeholders.
During his address, CP Itam called upon residents, community leaders, and local organizations to actively support the Police and other security agencies in countering criminal activities and resisting the recent security threats associated with the no-movement directive on Mondays in the area and throughout the state.

Sub-Committee Chairman Comrade Francis Ekpone before presenting the gifts commended the leadership of the council led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu Phd, for his achievements and
efforts in making sure that the union is still maintaining its functions as the watch dog of the society.
* The Nigeria Association of Pensioners, Anambra State Council, has intervened in the pathetic situation of Mrs. Fanny Ngozi Uchefuna, a retired Senior Matron who receives a meager N330 as monthly pension.
Mrs. Uchefuna retired on October 21, 1994, from the State Education Commission, with identity card number AN 866 and Njikoka Local Government as her pay point.
The union has written to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, urging him to review and harmonize pension rates in the state.
The letter cites a circular from the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission, requesting the governor to adopt the new rates.
* The Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, Prof. Benard Ifeanyi Odoh, has pledged to serve the university community with humility and kindness, prioritizing the welfare of both staff and students.
Odoh emphasized that his administration will maintain strict standards, warning that indiscipline or complacency will not be tolerated.
Prof. Odoh, an alumnus of UNIZIK, made these commitments during a Holy Mass held at St. Joseph Catholic Chaplaincy, UNIZIK Permanent Site, on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, marking his first official day in office.
Reaffirming his intention to lead an inclusive administration, he underscored the significance of fostering a supportive environment and ensuring the welfare of staff and students alike. As UNIZIK’s 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Odoh expressed optimism that his tenure would bring substantial infrastructural and human capital development.
* In a bid to get citizens to effectively engage their leaders and representatives for impactful governance, the Public and Private Development Centre (PPDC) has called on stakeholders in Nnewi, Nnewi North Local Government Area of Anambra State, to demand accountability from their representatives at all levels of government.
PPDC’s Deputy Senior Programs Officer, Samuel Akende, who made the call during a community engagement in Nnewi, said that the intervention aligns with Anambra’s Open Government Partnership (OGP) Year 2 Action Plan under the Fiscal Transparency thematic area.
Addressing the gathering at the Palace of the Traditional Ruler of Nnewi, Igwe Kenneth Orizu, Akende decried poor citizens’ participation in the budget cycle, ineffective management of public resources, which the intervention is aimd to address while also promoting feedback mechanisms on budget implementation.
According to him, increased participation by citizens will foster increased trust and ownership of the budget process, leading to improved public accountability, higher tax compliance, and subsequently, boost revenue and effective service delivery.
* Governor Chukwuma Soludo has urged Nigerian leaders to work together to develop Nigeria, create better opportunities and an environment where doctors and other medical professionals can thrive, in order to drastically reduce the rate brain drain in the medical and other professional fields.
Soludo made the call through his Deputy, Dr Onyekachukwu Ibezim at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching Hospital, Awka, during the 2024 induction of 70 medical graduands of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University College of Medicine.
Governor Soludo who restated the commitment of his administration towards remodeling and transforming the education sector of the state, said that the state university will not be an exception in both infrastructure and human development.
* The wife of the Governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has visited Central School, Odekpe, Ogbaru Local Government Area, where people who were displaced by flood in the area are currently taking shelter.
Mrs Soludo while addressing residents of the holding camp, assured them of continued government assistance to ensure that they are well taken care of, urging them to use this difficult time to explore gains of community.
The governor’s wife equally maintained her appeal for people to reach out to those in different holding centres in Anambra State, expressing her belief that the challenges of the moment could be won with love and compassion.
The first lady also appealed to volunteers taking of the camps to maintain the highest levels of hygiene, dietary caution and environmental cleanliness, as diseases could spread in such conditions if not well managed.
* The member representing Idemili North and South federal constituency, Hon. Uchenna Harris Okonkwo, is set to empower Idemili youths with bio-gas production and renewable energy skills.
Hon. Okonkwo has partnered with the National Biotechnology Research and Development Agency (Federal Ministry of Innovation, Science, and Technology) to train youths and women in Idemili North and South.
This initiative fulfills Hon. Okonkwo’s campaign promise to Umu-Idemili, made during the 2023 elections, to attract federal agencies to explore alternative energy sources for electricity generation, cooking, and transportation, while combating climate change. By keeping this promise, Hon. Okonkwo demonstrates his commitment to transforming the lives of his constituents.
* The Chairman of Nnewi North Local Government Area Hon. Echezona Anazodo has once again reiterated his commitment in delivering transformational leadership across Nnewi North within the shortest period of time
This was shown as Anazodo visited the collapsed ukwaka bridge in Umudim Nnewi to ascertain the level of damage caused by erosion in the area
Addressing the media at the erosion site, The Nnewi North LG Mayor assured the people of the area that he will do everything within his constitutional powers to ensure that we remedy the situation by partnering with the Anambra State government in the project.
Among the dignitaries who joined in the inspection includes Honorable councilors from Umudim, President General of the community and host of others.
