* History was on made at Nawfia Community in Njikoka LGA Anambra State, as the Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, inaugurated Ave Maria’s Parish, carved out from St Anthony’s Parish, Nawfia.

Speaking while delivering a homily, Bishop Ezeokafor expressed satisfaction with the infrastructural development in the Parish and thanked an illustrious son of the community, Chief Sir Victor Nwankwo, who singlehandedly spearheaded the development, for using his wealth to serve God and humanity at Nawfia Community.

According to the Bishop, wealth and all the good things that man had, came from God.

‘Man ought to use these to serve God and humanity; these are what Sir Victor Nwankwo is doing,’ Bishop Ezeokafor said, and urged other affluent individuals in Nawfia to emulate Sir Nwankwo, praying God to reward him and his family.

* The Anambra State First Lady, Dr. Mrs Nonye Soludo has been honoured with “Ugodiya” award by Soludo Women’s Movement, Idemili North chapter.

The award was presented in recognition of her significant contributions to the development of the state, including her support for vulnerable children, empowerment programs for women and girls, efforts in the fight against gender-based violence, and her advocacy for the protection of women’s rights.

During the event held at the council secretariat, Ogidi, her exceptional contributions to the communities were highlighted and the convener/National Coordinator of Soludo Women’s Movement, Lady Ify Atogu commended Mama Anambra, described the award as well-deserved.

Receiving the award through the Mayor of Idemili South local government area, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi(Iyom Ife-Abata), expressed her gratitude to the group, especially the executives, saying that the award was special and a source of motivation to continue serving humanity and further delivered Dr. Mrs Soludo’s message on healthy living garden and routine Saturday workout session.

* Labour Party aspirant in the last primary election, Mr John Nwosu, has assured his supporters that he remained hopeful of eventually getting the ticket of the party.

Nwosu who spoke at a function in Okija, Ihiala LGA, when asked about the state of Labour Party in Anambra State and his candidacy after he had disputed two separate primary elections, said the Supreme Court ruling of 4th April, 2025, was definitive.

He expressed optimism about his chances of eventually picking the party’s ticket, explaining that the electoral processes were clear and full of established precedents.

* The Commissioner of Police Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu has intervened in a land dispute at Ogu Clan, Ubarusioye Village, Nando.

CP Orutugu further sought the input and suggestions of relevant stakeholders to resolve the crisis and prevent further escalation.

The CP during the interview of the parties in his Office at the State Police Command Headquarters, Awka, highlighted the importance of community-led solutions and collaborative problem-solving in dispute resolution, especially on land issues and peaceful coexistence.

The Command witnessed the signing of an undertaking of the parties not to cause any further breach of the peace pending the outcome of the stakeholder’s resolutions.

* The Anambra State Ministry of Information, in partnership with the Amansea Cattle Market, recently organised a sensitisation campaign against drug abuse and addiction at the Amansea Cattle Market.

The event, themed ‘Operation Stop Drug Abuse and Addiction’, drew attention to the dangers of substance abuse and encouraged youths to pursue productive endeavours.

Speaking at the event, the Commissioner for Information, Dr Law Mefor, observed that the cattle market community is a strategic partner to the Solution Government in the development of the state and urged them, particularly youths, to avoid drugs to succeed in life and not live a wasted life.

Mefor warned that drug abuse leads to financial loss, poor decision-making, and potentially, mental degeneration up to the point of schizophrenia (madness).

In a welcome address, the Chairman of the Anambra Cattle Market, Amansea, Alhaji Bello Magari, observed that drug abuse and addiction are serious problems in the country today, which is why they deemed it important to hold the campaign in order to sanitise the cattle market.

While stating their commitment to continue partnering with the governor in making Anambra better, Alhaji Bello drew attention to the issue of their permanent site.

* The Governorship Candidate of Young Progressives Party (YPP) Sir Paul Chukwuma, has bid farewell to the Supreme Catholic Pontiff, His Holiness, Pope Francis, who passed away on Easter Monday at the of 88, describing him as a saint.

Chukwuma, a former seminarian in a press release he signed, said, ‘With deep humility, and total resignation to the will of the Almighty God, I bid an eternal farewell to the Catholic Pontiff, our Pope, Pope Francis. The Church once again loses a Father strong in faith.

“21st of April, 2025, will always remain a day to remember with joy and sorrow in the annals of the Church history. With sorrow because the chapters of a history of outstanding humanity are closing, with joy because an indelible footprint has been made in the life of the Church. Your 12 years (2013-2025) as the Pope and the Bishop of Rome will never be forgotten. A fresh and new generation has germinated within the Church.

“You were the first Jesuit to become the Pope. Your years as the Provincial Superior of the Jesuits (1973-1979), Auxiliary Bishop of Buenos Aires (1992-1997), Archbishop of Buenos Aires (1998-2013), and the Cardinal Archbishop of Buenos Aires (2011-2013), were beacons of fruitful evangelization in Argentina and later all over Southern America.

* The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev Dr Paulinus Ezeokafor, has commissioned 26 lockup shops of one-storey building at Adazi-Ani in Anaocha Local Government Area, Anambra State, constructed by St Peter’s Parish, Adazi-Ani, for the advancement of people’s lives in the area.

The Catholic Bishop, who was on a pastoral visit to the Parish, also blessed a gigantic victory Cross of Jesus Christ erected behind its church building for the spiritual need of the worshippers in the area.

In a homily during a Holy Mass concluding the episcopal visit, Bishop Ezeokafor admonished the Adazi-Ani people to preach the victorious resurrection of Jesus Christ through their lifestyles.

Ezeokafor, who reiterated that Christ had brought what he called objective redemption to mankind, enjoined the people to strive to work out their personal salvation through their services to God and humanity here on earth for an eternal life in heaven.

* An Igbocentric scholar and Founder of Nkolo Mahadum (Wisdom University), Dr Obiora Mba, has called on the Anambra State Government to invest sufficiently in Agriculture for sufficient food consumption and export.

Dr Mba who made the call while having a chat with newsmen in Awka, emphasized that Anambra State, Igbo Nation and Africa, at large, were blessed with fertile land and capable human resources who were willing to produce not only enough food for local consumption but also for export for foreign earnings.

He further suggested other measures to achieve food sufficiency for people and reduction of poverty and crime rates in society.

* A dietitian, Mrs Oludayo Coates, has called for moderation in the intake of water to avoid complications associated with excessive consumption of water.

Coates, who is the Head of the Dietetics and Nutrition Department at the Alimosho General Hospital, gave the advice in an interview with newsmen on tuesday.
According to her, many people found it difficult to believe that excessive consumption of water was harmful to the body.

Coates explained that drinking excess water could lead to hyponatremia – an electrolyte abnormality caused by an excess of total body water when compared to total body sodium content.

* The Mayor of Idemili North LGA, Hon. Stanley Nkwoka, at Uke Cultural & Civic Center (Amanduka) inaugurated Uke Security Committee.

Inaugurating the Committee in the presence of the traditional ruler of Uke, His Royal Highness (Surv.) Charles C Agbala (Igwe Oranyelu III of Uke); the President General of Uke ancient kingdom, Chief Peter Onyejegbu (Ezeani-Ezeaofojulu of Uke); the Council Boss assured Idemili North residents of his determination to reduce crime and crime related matters to the barest minimum.

Chief Nkwoka warned that anyone who tries to foment troubles in any of the communities that make up Idemili North or cause a security breach would be severely dealt with.
