# Two weeks after winning first place at Dr. Chinedu Umeadi Science Competition for Secondary Schools in Anambra State, Mater Amabilis Secondary School, Umuoji has recorded another outstanding academic achievement by emerging first and third positions at the just-concluded Prince Emeka Ayabazu Science Quiz and Fair Competition.

Among the top six finalists from across the state, Miss Ifunanya Agbala clinched the first position, while Miss Chidimma Nkwoka secured the third.

The students were honoured with awards for academic excellence during the 15th Anniversary of Prince Emeka Ayabazu Foundation, organized in collaboration with the Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission held at Anambra State Post Primary Schools Service Commission, Awka, themed, “waste to wealth”.

Presenting the awards, the Founder of the Foundation, Prince Emeka Ayabazu, represented by Mr. Osy Agbafor congratulated Mater Amabilis for showing academic excellence and inspire, nurture students in the education pursuit to become leaders of innovators.

# The management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Awka has commenced investigation over the death of Miss Isabella Ajana, a 100-level student in the Faculty of Law.

According to a press release from the Acting Director, Information and Public Relations/Protocols, Njelita Lious, the institution is beaming its searchlight on the operation, management, security and the welfare of students.

“The attention of the management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, has been drawn to the distressing incident involving Miss Isabella Ajana, a 100-level student in the Faculty of Law.

“It’s pertinent to inform all concerned at this moment and to assure the university
community and the public that the university is actively working to get to the root of this unfortunate situation.

“We understand the anxiety and uncertainty this has caused, and our primary concern is the safety and well-being of our students. The management acknowledges the issues at hand with deep concern and is leaving no stone unturned in taking immediate steps to address them. Currently, there is an ongoing investigation into the circumstances that led to the demise of our dear student.

“Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka is committed to transparency in this investigation and will keep the university community and the public informed and properly updated on the progress and outcome as soon as possible. However, the University is beaming its searchlight on the operation, management, security and the welfare of students living at Elmada, a privately owned and managed hostel within the University’s vicinity.

“In the meantime, we urge everyone to remain calm and avoid any actions likely to cause breach of peace. The university management assures all staff, students and the general public of the university’s determination to sustain the cordial relations In the university’ Njelita stated.

# The winners of various sports events in the just concluded 3rd edition of Anambra Sports Solution Initiative (ANSSI) have been presented with cheques of various amounts.

The Chairman of the Commission, Chief Estate Patrick Onyedum while making the presentation at the headquarters in Awka,
commended the schools that took part in the competition, the main organizing committee (MOC), games masters, Sports Officers and LOC members for delivering a successful sports event that showcased budding talents across the State.

Onyedum assured that the next edition of the competition would even be better with more robust parkage aimed at deepening grassroot sports development.

The Chairman urged the schools and sports coordinators to ensure that the gifts to the students and pupils, especially the bicycles, get directly to students who excelled, stressing that the initiative is designed to encourage young talents and instill a strong sports culture among Anambra youths.

# The Chieftain of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA), Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu and Idemili South Mayor, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi have commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the unprecedented Infrastructural projects in the state.

They made this commendation at Oba during the defection of major Labour Party stakeholder, Chief Ifediora Ayinofu, to Anambra ruling party, APGA, stating that Governor Soludo’s infrastructural projects in the state is the reason for the massive defection of opposition to APGA.

Speaking further, Chief Ikenna Iyiegbu praised Governor Soludo for what he described as “Excellent Performance”, stating that Charly Nwa Mgbafor has performed beyond expectations. He added that Oba community will vote massively for Governor Soludo in the upcoming gubernatorial election.

On her part, the Mayor of Idemili South, Hon. Mrs Amaka Obi applauded the decision of Chief Ifediora Ayinofu for joining APGA as the winning party and assured him of her administration’s commitment to carry him and other defectors along.

# The Mayor of Oyi Local Government Council, Hon. Emmanuel Ikechukwu Nweke has visited centers of Continuous Voter Registration.

Speaking to participants, the local government boss said he visited to
oversee the ongoing and update of the Voters Register and to assess both the challenges faced by the registrants and the progress being made in this essential electoral process.

Nweke urged eligible voter in Oyi LGA to utilize the opportunity to register.

# The team leader of Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) Gabriel Ohiemi has scored Anambra state high in terms of Infrastructural development and easy of doing business as regards digitalization of economy by a way of National Geographic Names Information System (GNIS).

Ohiemi while speaking during the technical session and state wide town hall meeting on State Action on Business Enabling Reforms (SABER), at International Conference Center (ICC) Awka, Anambra state capital, expressed satisfaction on the level of Infrastructural development in Anambra, saying that from the review they get shows that the state is in a right pedestal especially in the easy of doing business.

He said that the implication of GNIS helps people to access lands through electronically which according to him reduces long standing issues of land grabbers and land scammers.

# The Anambra State Police Command leveraging on necessary information
recovered an abandoned AK-47 rifle in a residential apartment under renovation at Ihuowele Ngo Village, Igboukwu, in Aguata Local Government Area.

Preliminary investigation revealed that a certain man known as Samson, allegedly identified as a notorious individual and the former occupant of the apartment, may be connected to the weapon.

Samson has not been seen in the area since June 2024, and efforts are currently ongoing to track and apprehend him.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu has commended the vigilance of the community members and reiterated the importance of Community-Police collaboration.

The CP through a press release signed by
SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, Police Public Relations Officer, urged ndi Anambra to continue to provide timely and actionable information that would aid the Police in delivering on its Mandate of Protecting Lives and Property.

# Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Anambra State has been thrown into a serious pandemonium and chaos following the alleged involvement of the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Ude in the election of Senate Representatives to Joint Council/Senate Committee for Selection of Substantive Vice-Chancellor of the citadel of learning, even as the University community accused her of lying against the Visitor of the University, Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, CFR.

A source in the institution who spoke on the condition of anonymity stated that the involvement of the Education Commissioner in the exercise clearly showed that she had something up her sleeves, noting that the Madam Commissioner lack the legitimacy to meddle into the affairs of the Senate and processes of selecting a substantive Vice-Chancellor of the University.

Continuing, the source noted that the varsity community had it in good authority that the Governor did not in any way ask her to assume the position she conferred on herself in the exercise.

# The Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission (LGSC), Bar. Vin Ifeanyi Ezeaka, has used this year’s LGSC Week to continue with his mobilization exercise for the re-election bid of the Governor of Anambra State, Professor Chukwuma Soludo.

The LGSC boss, during the opening of the 2025 LGSC Week, stated that they had successfully mobilized over 1000 workers from the twenty-one local government areas of the state, emphasizing that 50 workers were drawn from each of the council areas.

Declaring the event open at at Dora Akunyili Women’s Development Centre, Awka, Governor Soludo described workers as the live wire of every government, saying that his government was working to ensure that workers delivered efficient services driven by technology in line with his mantra of “Everything technology, technology everywhere”, and announced that gratuity had been paid for all those that retired during his administration.
