# Anambra State Primary Healthcare Development Agency (ASPHCDA), in partnership with Anambra State Ministry of Health (SMOH) and National Primary Healthcare Development Agency (NPHCDA) announces recruitment for Community Based Health Workers.
This is in line with the mandate of Governor Chukwuma Soludo to provide affordable and assessable healthcare to Ndi Anambra at the grassroots level.
Available Cadres for applications are:
Junior Community Health Extension Workers (JCHEWs). Assistant Community- Based Health Workers.
# The mayor of Njikoka LGA Barr.Chinedu Ononiba has felicitated with Nze Patrick Nworji on his re-election as the President General (PG) of Enugwu-Ukwu for another three-year term.
Ononiba described the Enugwu-Ukwu Community Development Union (ECDU) elections as successfully amidst orderliness and high voter participation.
The LG boss maintained that the peaceful process which led to the re-election of Nworji, reaffirmed the trust and confidence the community has in his leadership. He also commended the ECDU electoral committee for organizing a transparent and swift election. The Mayor reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting community leadership structures and fostering peace and development across Njikoka LGA.
# The Mayor of idemili South LGA, Dr. Mrs Amaka Obi attended Awka-Etiti home and abroad August meeting.
Speaking during the meeting, Dr. Obi said that women are in a better position to ensure peace and lead the way for future generations, stating that they can achieve a lot when they work together and support each other.
She noted that Governor Chukwuma Charles Soludo CFR, had appointment many women in key positions in his administration and declared free antenatal and free delivery for every pregnant women in the state.
While urging them to throw weight behind Governor Soludo’s re-election, the local government boss revealed that she has empowered 700 women and youths with skills and startup equipment, supported 250 women with funds and will continue to consolidate on the efforts of Mr Governor at the grassroot level especially in human capital development.
# In a sustained effort to rid Anambra State of criminal elements, Police Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu in collaboration with the Anambra State Vigilante Group (AVG) Agunechemba, acting on credible intelligence, stormed a Secessionist/Terrorist camp at Awa, Orumba North Local Government Area
During the well-coordinated operation that lasted for more than 15 hours, the operatives successfully dislodged the insurgents, rescued a victim who had earlier been kidnapped and held hostage in the camp. It was reported that despite the payment of a ransom of ₦20,000,000.00 (Twenty Million Naira) only by the victim’s family, the hoodlums aborted his release until he was eventually freed by the Joint Security Team.
Anambra Police Spokesperson SP Ikenga Tochukwu in a press statement maintained that in the fierce gun battle, four of the criminal elements were neutralized.
The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu while assuring Ndi Anambra that the Command remains resolute in its commitment to ensuring safety and security has assured that extensive operations are ongoing in the area to track down and arrest other fleeing suspects as well as destroy other criminal camps in the State.
# The Anambra State Government has banned the practice of writing assignments inside textbooks, describing it as wasteful and unsustainable.
The State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, announced the directive while addressing participants at the third day of a capacity building workshop organized by the Ministry of Education for private school proprietors and teachers at St. John of God Secondary School,Awka.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh explained that the decision was aimed at making textbooks reusable, especially for younger siblings of pupils who would need them when they advance to the next class. She also stressed the need for textbooks to be inclusive, reflecting diversity, equality, and the needs of all learners.
She warned that the government would not tolerate non-compliance with the directive and urged parents, teachers, and school administrators to ensure strict adherence. She also encouraged stakeholders to report cases of defaulters to the Ministry of Education.
According to the Commissioner, the initiative is part of the state government’s strategy to ease financial pressure on families while promoting quality and sustainable education.
# The Executive Chairman, Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB, Awka, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi has reiterated the need for all stakeholders to participate actively in school governance for effective service delivery, improved access, equity and better learning outcomes for learners.
Dr. Nwadinobi made the remark while presenting her keynote address at the official inauguration of the State Task Team, STT of the School Based Management Committee, SBMC and the inauguration of Soludo SBMC Support Group, SSSG held at the Utility Hall of the ASUBEB headquarters, Awka.
According to the ASUBEB boss, SBMC was established to assist in decentralising decision-making authority by giving schools greater autonomy to address their unique challenges through indigenous resources free of charge.
Continuing, Dr. Nwadinobi noted that Governor Charles Soludo in his resolve to end the era of schools without teachers has gone a step further to approve the Club of Patrons and Community Based Supervisors in the spirit of Public Private Community Partnership, PPCP to enable stakeholders ensure that the schools in their communities perform maximally because basic education is the responsibility of all.
# Anambra Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) as part of activities marking its Annual Press Week, donated essential relief items to inmates of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Awka Custodial Centre, Amawbia.
NUJ presented beverages, pain relief drugs, detergents, and other necessities to the inmates during the visit, which was aimed at offering support and encouragement.
Speaking on behalf of the Council Chairman, the Vice Chairman, Comrade Betty Oluchukwu, said the gesture was designed to inspire the inmates to view incarceration as a phase of preparation rather than the end of their story urging them to see it as “a waiting time, not a wasting time,” and to use the opportunity to build strength, skills, and knowledge that will aid their reintegration into society.
In his address, Chairman of the NUJ Press Week Committee, Comrade Ekpome Francis, described the visit as part of the union’s corporate social responsibility, stressing that journalists remain committed to giving back to society beyond their professional duties.
Responding, the Controller of Corrections, Anambra State Command, Mr. Emmanuel Nwakeze, represented by the Deputy Controller of Corrections, Amawbia Custodial Centre, DCC Patrick Chukwuemeka, thanked the journalists for their gesture while outlining some of the challenges confronting the facility, including lack of vehicles, inadequate medical supplies, overcrowding, and limited skills-acquisition equipment, and appealed to well-meaning individuals and organizations to assist in alleviating the burden.
# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has assured that his administration will continue to fulfill the responsibility of providing essential services that enhance the livelihoods of ndị Anambra, rather than simply distributing handouts.
Soludo made this statement during a news conference at the Light House in Awka, commemorating the 34th anniversary of Anambra’s creation on August 27, 1991, by former Military President Ibrahim Babangida.
Governor Soludo emphasized the importance of prioritizing sustainable development through agriculture, healthcare, quality education, and reliable infrastructure, rather than focusing solely on short-term palliatives, highlighting his administration’s commitment to genuine stomach infrastructure by boosting agricultural productivity, creating jobs, and improving access to essential services.
# The Mayor of Orumba North LGA, Barr. Casmir Nwafor, has called on the people of the area to be united in order to attract more developments to the area, appreciating the giant strides Governor Chukwuma Soludo and other notable citizens of the area have recorded for the development of the area.
Barrister Nwafor made the call during the celebration of Orumba North at 34 held at the Council Stadium Ajalli, where he stated that the event was to reflect on the progress made so far in the local government, promising to continue to invest in agriculture to ensure food security, as well as empowering the youth to help calm youth restiveness, and commended Governor Soludo for his efforts in achieving maximum security in the state.
Some of the attendees while speaking, thanked God for his mercy which has taken the local government thus far, stating that the local government is developing in agriculture, commerce and industry, while calling on wealthy citizens of Orumba North in the diaspora to bring back their investments home to help develop the local government that has the pride of producing former Vice President of Nigeria, Late Dr. Alex Ekwueme.
