Tinubu Departs on 10-Day Working Vacation to France, UK Amid Questions Over Constitutional Handover

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu began a 10-working-day vacation on Thursday, travelling from Abuja to France and the United Kingdom, according to his office. The trip is part of his 2025 annual leave and was confirmed in a statement by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.

Notably, the announcement omitted any mention of a formal letter submitted to the National Assembly, as required by Section 145(1) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended) for the Vice President, Kashim Shettima, to act in the President’s absence. Both chambers of the Assembly are currently on recess.

During his first 17 months in office, Tinubu spent 124 days abroad in 29 trips to 16 countries, with a total of 41 international trips made alongside Vice President Shettima, according to previous records.
