# The President General of Nawgu Development Union, Prince Frank Nwegwu has thanked the Mayor of Dunukofia, Hon. Chijioke Ozumba, for making Nawgu a beneficiary of his landmark initiative, describing him as “a man of his word who has brought visible development to our community.”
Also speaking at the celebration of one year in office of the Mayor of Dunukofia,
the traditional ruler of Nawgu, His Royal Highness, Igwe George Okaa-Onwuogu, also showered royal blessings on the Mayor, commending him for marking his one year anniversary with tangible and people-driven projects.
He remarked: “History will remember you for putting people first. This project and others across Dunukofia will stand as evidence that your leadership is about service, not self.”
As a show of appreciation, the Nawgu Development Union presented a live goat to the Mayor. Similarly, the Akwueso Village of Nawgu gifted him a live ram, while the Igwe and his cabinet not only presented another live ram but also conferred on him an Award of Excellence in recognition of his visionary leadership and the successful completion of the lock-up shops project.
# The Director, General Studies Department, Paul University Awka, Anambra State, Dr. Davidson Azubuike Nkala, has called on media owners, practising journalists and editors to upscale their status through capacity building, academic and skills acquisitions for stability and wellbeing, especially at retirement age.
Nkala, who made the call while delivering a lecture at October 2025 Congress of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Anambra State Council, lamented that why some journalists die of abject poverty or sicknesses were due to occupational hazards which often make it impossible for them to amass wealth legally for upkeep of themselves and families.
According to him, when a journalist discovers their potential or skill, develop and invest positively to harness them, it would be difficult for such a professional to engage in unprofessional practices, live in abject poverty or die because of lack of finances for a proper medical care.
He also called on the NUJ, Nigeria Guild of Editors, Nigerian Press Organisation (NPO) and other affiliate bodies in the media to form thrift societies and microfinance banks capable of empowering members to develop themselves or live comfortably.
# Professor Chukwuma Soludo, again has made a passionate call regarding petty traders, urging local authorities to refrain from collecting fees from them.
Governor Soludo while addressing a passionate crowd in a rally at Ekwulọbịa, after visiting Eke market in Awgbu where it was observed that levies were still being collected from petty traders with less than one hundred thousand naira capital, against government directive, reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the livelihoods of petty traders.
“Don’t collect from them anymore. We will arrest anybody that goes ahead to disregard this,” he warned,
Soludo called for support for his candidacy and emphasizing the importance of the community’s involvement in local governance.
Governor Soludo expressed gratitude for the community’s support, declaring, “It is now a people’s movement.”
He highlighted the significance of Ekwulọbịa, stating that while Jim Nwobodo had designated Awka, Onitsha, Nnewi, and Ekwulọbịa as cities, the latter appeared to have been overlooked in the development plans.
A cheque of eighty million naira was presented to the Governor, alongside the Deputy Governor, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim to support his campaign.
# The Chairman of Idemili South local government area Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi has again reiterated her unalloyed commitment and resolve to the educational development of school children in her council.
Obi therefore provided school bags, books, writing kits and other materials to pupils from Isu Primary School Oba, Ezike Central School Ahuda Nnobi, Community Central School Nnobi, Community Central School Awka-Etiti, Central School Ojoto-Uno, Community Primary School Ojoto-Uno, Umuene Primary School Ojoto, St. Joseph Seminary School Awka-Etiti, Triumphant Cross Secondary School Oba, St. Cordelia’s Nursery and Primary School Ojoto, Idemili Primary School Nnokwa, to mention a few of the schools, stressing that all the materials were given to the pupils and schools free of charge because the government of the day cares even as she promised the schools more largese as education is a top priority in her development agenda.
The Mayor in her speech at the
commemoration of the 65th Independence Day Celebration at the council headquarters Ojoto, reaffirmed that her administration will continue to pay attention in the education sector.
Dr. Obi while highlighting giant strides of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s including free education policy in all government schools in the state, noted that children from less-privileged families can now afford western education without tears because the governor believes children are the future hope of the state and the country at large.
The local government boss maintained that her administration has remained deeply committed to ensuring that the dividends of democracy reached every community, household and individual in Idemili-South Local Government Area, adding that her regime has also worked tirelessly to improve the lives of the people through infrastructural development, youth empowerment, healthcare delivery, and educational supports.
# Operatives of the Anambra State Police Command attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, acting on credible information, stormed Aguleri and arrested the prime suspect, Obadigbo Emmanuel Anumudu, aged 46 years.
The suspect had allegedly been on the run since 22nd July 2024 after he gruesomely murdered and beheaded late Mrs. Obianuju Akubi, a 69 year old woman in Umuleri.
Police Spokesperson in Anambra, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga in a press release stated that during interrogation, the suspect confessed to the crime and further mentioned members of his gang who participated in the murder and beheading.
He also disclosed the whereabouts of the victim’s head, which was taken away after the heinous act.
# The Chief of Staff to former Governor Willie Obiano, Chief Primus Odili has urged the Anambra State populace and Igbo nation by extension to support reelection of Governor Chukwuma Soludo come November 8 gubernatorial poll.
Chief. Odili promised continued support
and partnership with Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), but urged practitioners to be careful with information they put out for public consumption.
Odili, who made the call at the NUJ October Congress held in Awka, Anambra State capital, argued that reelecting Soludo would help to sustain the government of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) whose legacies to him, were too numerous to mention.
He also urged the people to stop comparing all the government of Anambra State under the APGA because according to him, they all performed credibly as APGA government.
# Lolitical support group, Geeks & Founders For Soludo (GEFAS), has appeal to the State Chapter of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), to support governor Chukwuma Soludo’s reelection bid through massive publication of his historical achievements.
Speaking on the upcoming November 8, 2025 governorship election in Anambra State, the convener of GEFAS, Mr Chukwuemeka Fred Agbata, made the appeal on behalf of the group while addressing members of NUJ at the state secretariat in Awka, during the Union’s October 2025 Congress.
Agbata who is also the Managing Director of Anambra State ICT Agency, said what governor Soludo has done within three and half years in office is enough evidence for the Union to wholeheartedly give full support to the governor to enable him actualized his vision of making Anambra a digitalized, clean, green livable and prosperous state in Nigeria.
He enumerated some of the achievements recorded under his agency as RoW which gave rise to Fibre-to-home deployment, 5G infrastructure expansion, Faster and more reliable internet across communities, as well as created an enabling environment where innovators, telecom operators, and entrepreneurs can thrive.
# The Governorship Candidate of Action Alliance, AA, Ozo Jeff Nweke, has promised to run an all-inclusive government if voted into power on November 8 this year.
Nweke disclosed this in an interaction with newsmen in Awka.
According to Nweke, Anambra State needed governance of inclusivity, not alienation.
‘We shall bridge the gap between the government and the citizens when elected into office to make people the centre of governance and not the other way round.
He further said that political contest like the governorship or legislative seat, especially in Anambra, was not a tea party, as it involved a lot of financial commitment and power tussle.
