Crayon Tribute to Late Evelyn Chukwu, Lamenting the ‘Everlasting Scar’ of Her Untimely Death.
Mavin Artist known as Crayon has paid a deeply emotional public tribute to his mother, Evelyn Chukwu, as she was laid to rest, describing her death on July 4th as the “darkest day of my life.”
In a moving message shared by the family, Crayon mourned the loss of the woman he referred to as his “soldier, my backbone, my angel and my pillar,” expressing profound heartbreak over the suddenness of the tragedy.
The loss, which occurred just four days before his birthday, has led Crayon to question the purpose of his recent success, lamenting the timing of her passing after decades of struggle.
He wrote that he has tirelessly questioned God: “After all the suffer wey we don suffer for decades, na now wey God don bless us, you come die leave me?… Now wey you suppose dey eat the fruits of your labor ehn!”
Crayon described his overwhelming grief after seeing her lie lifeless in the hospital, calling the moment his “greatest fear.” He acknowledged the immense burden she carried for the family for years, hailing her as “my warrior!”
Despite the profound pain and the feeling of an “everlasting scar I’m never going to heal from,” Crayon made a solemn promise to the deceased.
“I promise to take care of naza, and the rest of the family,” he stated in the tribute, affirming his resolve to remain strong and “keep pushing” as she would have wanted.
Concluding his eulogy, Crayon used the Igbo phrase “Okwa Chukwu wetalu na Chukwu ewulugo’” (God gives and God takes), offering a final farewell to his mother who he believes is now “living through me and you are always with me.” Mrs. Evelyn Chukwu has been laid to rest.
