# Anambra State Town Union Council (ASTUC) Youth Wing has honoured Rev Fr Basil Ekwunife, Chief Chinedu Umeadi and Chief Ebuka Onunkwo with community role models award for their efforts towards contributing to grassroots development.

The youth body also celebrated the victory of Prof Chukwuma Soludo during the just concluded Anambra State Gubernatorial Election, insisting that it was a vote of confidence by the people of the state.

At the ceremony held at ASTUC Secretariat Hall, Old Government House, Awka, the President General of the Association, His Youthfulness Ken Okoli, explained that the award recognises outstanding personalities for their impactful contributions.

# It was a celebration of sorts at St. Kevin’s Catholic Church, Nimo, in Njikoka LGA of Anambra State, as it celebrated the 25th anniversary of the creation of the Parish.

The event preceded by a concelebrated Eucharistic Celebration, had the Catholic Bishop of Awka, His Lordship Bishop Paulinus Ezeokafor; the Diocesan Chancellor, Rev. Fr Charles Ndubuisi; the Diocesan Bursar, Reverend Father Nicodemus Izuchukwu; in attendance.

In his homily, Bishop Ezeokafor, admonished parents to be alive to their responsibilities, saying that poor parenting had caused many children and wards to be misbehaving in society, exhorting them to shun what he called unbridled quest for materialism and pay attention and also devote more time to their children and wards.

# The 7th Substantive Vice-Chancellor of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (NAU), Awka, Prof. Ugochukwu Anyaehie, says his main priority as the new helmsman of UNIZIK will be to prioritize students’ welfare, even as he described students as his major employer.

Addressing newsmen in his office shortly after receiving a handover note from his predecessor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umeobi, Anyaehie expressed the need for peace and true reconciliation, adding that no meaningful development would take place in an atmosphere of chaos.

The VC announced that his administration would invest heavily in sports development, research, and building of medical centre at Okohia Campus of the University, stating that he would institute a yearly 5 million Naira research grant for the most productive researcher of the year.

# The Anambra State Police Command wishes to inform the public that operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu has recovered a stolen 3-year-old girl following a case transferred from Ogbaru Division, Atani, involving conspiracy, child stealing, and harbouring.

The Operatives through sustained and intelligence-driven operations, rescued the child at Nnobi, Idemili South LGA, Anambra State, and has since safely reunited her with her parents.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the child was stolen by one Miss Chioma Anioma, an apprentice to the victim’s family. Upon realizing that operatives were closing in on her, the suspect allegedly escaped arrest in Calabar, Cross River State, where the child had been sold to another suspect now on the run.

In a bid to evade further Police pressure, Chioma abandoned the child at Nnobi and later contacted the victim’s parents to disclose the location.

According to Anambra Police spokesman,
SP Ikenga Tochukwu, intensive efforts are ongoing to identify, trace, and arrest all suspects connected to the criminal syndicate responsible for the abduction and trafficking of the child.

# A chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, ADC, in Awka South LGA, Anambra State, Hon Obiora Anichebe, has advised political parties and their candidates that participated in the just concluded governorship election in the state, to support Governor Chukwuma Soludo for the development and progress of the state

The ADC Chieftain, who gave the advice while having a chat with newsmen in Awka recently, also advised the parties against going to court to challenge the outcome of the election, describing it as free, fair and creditable in all standards.

Hon Anichebe said the observers of the election had adjudged it as not only free and fair, but also the most credible election ever conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, since the creation of Anambra State. He further commended the INEC for conducting what he called a blameless election in the state.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has undertaken an extensive inspection of several critical development projects.

Some of the projects inspected by Governor Soludo are: the Market Square Shopping Mall, the construction work at Awka City Stadium and the ongoing upgrade of Uga Boys High School.

Prof. Soludo while speaking at the Market Square Shopping Mall, reviewed progress on the commercial hub designed to boost local businesses and stimulate economic growth, highlighting the project’s near completion and its expected role in transforming the local market landscape.

The Governor also visited Uga Boys High School, where the ongoing upgrade aims to provide improved educational facilities and a conducive learning environment for students, a project that is part of a broader initiative to raise educational standards in the state.

Soludo emphasized the administration’s unwavering dedication to delivering on its development agenda without delay, reinforcing a strong work ethic focused on continuous progress, pointing out that the tours underscores his administration’s commitment to advancing infrastructural development and enhancing public facilities.

# Ndi Enugu-Agidi Community, in Njikoka LGA, have rejected the December 16th 2025 Enugwu-Agidi Brotherly Union (EBU), electon as announced by Mr. Ebuka Onuorah.

They accused Onuorah of trying to disenfranchise many indigenes of Enugu-Agidi by fixing 16th December as the date for Triennial delegates conferenc/election in order to manipulate the process.

The community in a letter written to the Governor, Anambra traditional rulers and President Generals, maintained that Ebuka Onuorah wanted to disenfranchise the people in the election, which the town union usually holds on 29th December when most indigenes have returned home for the Christmas festivities..

# The Catholic Bishop of Awka Diocese, Most Rev. Paulinus Chukwuemeka Ezeokafor, has expressed deep concern over the increasing cases of child kidnapping, especially in Catholic schools.

Speaking after the Benediction that concluded the annual Christ the King procession at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, Awka, Bishop Ezeokafor warned that the children abducted by criminal groups could be at risk of being used as human shields.

He urged Nigerians to intensify prayers for the nation’s security situation and for the protection of Christian communities.

Ezeokafor alleged that some groups may be seeking to impose their religious agenda on the country, calling on Christians to remain vigilant and spiritually steadfast. He concluded by urging continuous prayers for Nigeria and particularly for the safety of Christians.
