Putin Issues War Warning to Europe Ahead of Crucial US Peace Talks

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Tuesday issued a stark warning to Europe, asserting that Moscow is “ready” for a new conflict should the continent initiate one, even as he accused European leaders of actively sabotaging the US-led peace efforts to end the war in Ukraine.

Putin’s provocative statement came just hours before he met with a high-level US delegation in the Kremlin, led by special envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, who arrived with a revised peace proposal.

Accusation of Sabotage

Speaking to reporters in Moscow, the Russian leader confirmed that while he has no plans to escalate the conflict westward, Moscow is prepared if the circumstances change.

”We are not planning to go to war with Europe, but if Europe wants to and starts, we are ready right now,” Putin said.

The President focused his criticism on Kyiv’s European allies, alleging they are undermining Washington’s diplomatic efforts by pushing for terms unacceptable to Russia, thereby blocking the peace process.

”They don’t have a peace agenda, they’re on the side of the war,” Putin insisted, adding that European amendments to the draft peace proposal are “absolutely unacceptable to Russia” and are “blocking the entire peace process.”

US Push for Revised Peace Plan

The visit by Witkoff and Kushner is part of the Trump administration’s renewed push to finalize a peace plan for the nearly four-year conflict. The US team is carrying a revised version of the proposal after European governments and Ukraine expressed strong objections to earlier terms, which were criticized for favoring Russian demands on territorial concessions and restrictions on Kyiv’s military.

Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov confirmed the closed-door talks were set to be extensive.

The discussions come at a tense diplomatic moment, with the US seeking to broker a “decent peace” while European nations remain concerned that any deal imposed could force Ukraine to surrender vital territory, potentially setting a dangerous precedent for future Russian aggression. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is reportedly expecting an immediate debrief from Witkoff and Kushner following their meeting with Putin.
