Popular Nigerian rapper and activist Eedris Abdulkareem has had his Facebook and Instagram accounts suspended by Meta, just days after releasing his new track titled “Open Letter to Donald Trump.”
Abdulkareem confirmed the suspensions on Sunday, stating: “Facebook just suspended my Facebook and Instagram account because of my new song, Open Letter to Donald Trump. I can’t access it.”
The song, released in late November 2025 under his label Lakreem Entertainment, addresses corruption, insecurity, and misgovernance in Nigeria. While nominally directed at former U.S. President Donald Trump, the lyrics primarily target Nigerian political leaders.
In the track, Abdulkareem criticises rising kidnappings, killings, and other security challenges, describing the country’s leadership as morally bankrupt. The musician is known for using his music to speak truth to power — a reputation born from earlier controversial works such as “Jaga Jaga” (2004) and the more recent “Tell Your Papa,” both of which faced censorship.
As of press time, Meta has not publicly explained the reason behind the suspension. The abrupt deactivation has sparked concern among fans and civil-society actors, who warn it may represent an attempt to silence dissenting voices and undermine freedom of expression in Nigeria.
