# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has urged the youth of the South East to enlist in the Nigerian Armed Forces and reclaim their stake in Nigeria. He made this call during the wreath-laying ceremony marking the 2026 Armed Forces Celebration and Remembrance Day in Awka, Anambra State capital.
Soludo reflected on the 56th anniversary of the Nigerian Civil War, emphasizing that the “no victor, no vanquished” philosophy should guide the nation. He described the war as “needless” and paid tribute to fallen heroes, including members of the armed forces and their families.
The Governor lamented the low enlistment rates of Anambra indigenes in the national security architecture, calling it “self-marginalization”. He challenged the youth to see the military as a platform for national service and a way to secure their stake in the country. “We must participate as co-owners of Project Nigeria,” he said.
Soludo also appealed to those involved in violent agitation to surrender, saying “The terror era is over”. He commended President Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu and security agencies for their efforts, expressing confidence that the current wave of terror would be decisively dealt with.
# The Lawmaker Representing Anambra Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Chief. Victor Umeh, has paid school fees for 326 students drawn from different parts of the constituency and beyond for this academic session.

said it was part of his effort to ensure access to education for those who desired it but lack the financial support to maximize their full potential.
The lawmaker noted that through his Foundation” Victor Umeh Education Foundation” founded in 1999, he had offered scholarship to scores of youths who performed well in their chosen field of study.
Chief Umeh disclosed that the annual scholarship program covers their school fees and all other things they needed to excel in their higher educational pursuit.
# The World Bank–assisted Innovation Development and Effectiveness in the Acquisition of Skills (IDEAS–TVET) Project has formally commenced hands-on training for 150 unemployed youths in Fashion Design and Garment Making at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka.
The training is part of the Federal Government–backed initiative implemented through the Federal Ministry of Education to equip young Nigerians with market-relevant skills, enhance employability, and promote self-reliance.
The beneficiaries were selected under the IDEAS Project after a rigorous process that produced the UNIZIK team, led by Prof. Chinedu Onyeizugbe, as one of the approved Training Service Providers (TSPs) nationwide.
Speaking at the commencement of the programme, the Director, Centre for Capital Market Studies and Innovation, UNIZIK, Prof. Chinedu Onyeizugbe, charged participants to demonstrate discipline, commitment, and seriousness throughout the duration of the training. He reminded them that the opportunity was fully funded and came at no cost to beneficiaries, stressing that it must not be taken for granted.
According to him, the trainees have been structured into categories based on competence levels — learners, intermediaries, and advanced participants, while the programme itself is divided into male and female tailoring tracks to ensure effective delivery and personalized skill development.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Anambra State Sector Command, in collaboration with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), has launched a sensitization exercise against drunk driving among commercial drivers in Anambra State.
The exercise aimed to reduce road traffic crashes and fatalities by 10% through data-driven intervention.
In her address, Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekahuno emphasized that most recorded crashes on Nigerian roads are attributed to drunk driving, urging drivers to desist from driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The PPRO further encouraged eligible youths in the state to take advantage of ongoing and future recruitment opportunities into the Nigeria Police Force, noting that their participation remains vital to effective community policing and sustainable security.
# The wife of the Anambra State Governor, Dr Nonye Soludo, has expressed excitement over a couple who met and fell in love during one of the ‘Healthy Living Saturday Workouts’ organised by her non-governmental initiative, ‘Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo’ in Aguata Local Government Area of the state.
The Anambra First Lady, who expressed her excitement in a press statement on Tuesday, noted that aside from the central focus on health and overall human well-being, communities have also being provided with rare avenues for healthy friendships, growth, and impact.
She noted that the weekly workouts done in 179 communities in 21 LGAs across the state, is aimed at promoting physical fitness as well as raise awareness on healthy eating and disease prevention, bringing together government officials, health workers, students and residents who walked through major streets in the state capital and into various communities.
While highlighting the role and importance of healthy unions in shaping the communities and societies, Soludo emphasised the importance of mindful consumption, environmental stewardship and ethical choices.
Also speaking, NDLEA Team Leader Mrs. Priscilia Onyema highlighted the dangers of drug abuse, stating it increases fatality rates and leads to family dependency and societal liability.
The sensitization exercise covered Rivers Joy Motor Park, Royal Mass Transit, Peace Mass Transit, and Eastern Mass Transit, with 14 drivers testing negative for alcohol using breathalyzers.
The drivers were commended and advised to remain steadfast, while others were cautioned against drunk driving.
# Anambra State Government wishes to notify the general public that full enforcement of all environmental laws has commenced in the state.

Anambra State, Dr. Law Mefor in a public announcement noted that all public and private buildings without functional catchment pits, drainage systems, or any approved means of stormwater control will attract strict penalties.
“Anyone caught dropping refuse indiscriminately on roads, expressways, or into drainages will be arrested, prosecuted, and fined.
“The indiscriminate disposal of sachet water nylons, PET bottles, plastics, or any other waste materials at locations other than designated litter points is strictly “prohibited.
” Offenders will be fined and prosecuted in accordance with the law.
“Penalties: Individuals: ₦20,000 to ₦1,000,000. Corporate organizations: ₦100,000 to ₦5,000,000
# The Chairman of Idemili-South LGA, Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi has rescued pupils of Central School Nnobi from dilapidated classrooms.
The school located at Umuegbu village Ngo in Nnobi community Idemili-South LGA, received attention of the Council Chairman, when the Councilor representing Nnobi ward 2 Hon. Oluchukwu Ilogbenu, narrated ordeals of the primary school pupils whom he said needed urgent help from the dilapidated classroom blocks.
At the commissioning ceremony of the four classroom blocks constructed by Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi for Nnobi Central School, she said she wasted no time in responding to the situation because she believes that the government of Professor Chukwuma Charles Soludo doesn’t joke with basic education.
She said her administration prioritises basic education because it is the foundation for educational development.
# The Anambra State Police Command has clarified that the State Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, is not a police officer, despite her visible passion and support for policing activities.
In a press statement, Anambra Police Public Relations Officer, (PPRO) SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, said the Command took note of the strong interest and support expressed by the Commissioner toward the Nigeria Police Force.
According to Ikenga, the Command observed that her positive disposition reflects the growing acceptance and trust of the Nigeria Police Force by Ndi Anambra. He added that such support serves as encouragement to more qualified indigenes of the state to consider careers in policing.
“The Command wishes to state clearly that the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, is not a police officer. However, she is one of the committed, police-loving citizens who, in addition to her appointment by the State Government, has chosen to contribute to national security by joining the Police Supernumerary (Spy Police) Unit,” Ikenga said.
SP Ikenga explained that members of the Police Supernumerary unit are not regular police officers. Although they wear police uniforms, they are not authorized to carry arms or perform full policing duties such as general patrols, criminal investigations, or public arrests.
However, they may render support services when necessary. Ikenga reiterated the Command’s commitment to strengthening community partnerships, promoting professionalism, and working collaboratively with stakeholders to ensure safety and security across Anambra State.
