# Anambra State Commandant of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Anambra State, Commandant Maku Olatunde, has applauded the continued support of the Nigerian Army to NSCDC in the discharge of its statutory mandates.
Commandant Maku made this statement when he received the Commander, 302 Artillery Regiment (General Support) Cantonment Onitsha, Col. Butrus Yakubu, and his team on a courtesy visit at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.
Commandant Maku underscored the importance of inter-agency collaboration in promoting peace, stability, and operational effectiveness in the state.
The NSCDC State boss disclosed that the NSCDC and the military have had a long history of collaboration, including training of personnel, and joint operations against vandalism of critical national, state, and local government assets and infrastructure, fight against illegal oil bunkering, and other activities.
He noted that synergy and collaboration were crucial as no single agency or institution can effectively eliminate crimes and criminality in society.
The NSCDC State helmsman assured the Army Commander of the sustenance and strengthening of the existing collaboration between both agencies.
# Operation Clean and Healthy Anambra (OCHA) Brigade has commenced full enforcement of all Anambra environmental laws across the state.
The move was announced during the command’s first muster parade and headcount for 2026.
On internal discipline, the OCHA Brigade condemned unprofessional conduct, particularly extortion of market women and traders, and reaffirmed zero tolerance for such acts, with monitoring and intelligence units mandated to act on credible reports, including immediate dismissal of any personnel found culpable.
Under the enforcement, all public and private buildings without functional catchment pits, drainage systems or approved stormwater control measures will attract strict penalties.
Indiscriminate dumping of refuse on roads, expressways or into drainages will lead to arrest, prosecution and fines.
The disposal of sachet water nylons, PET bottles, plastics or any waste outside designated litter points is prohibited.
Landlords, shop owners, car wash operators and restaurant owners have been warned against channeling waste water onto roads and streets, described as unhygienic and harmful to residents and the environment.
Offenders, according to officials, will be fined and prosecuted in line with the law.

# Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Anambra state, Dr. Chioma Irene Awuzie, is currently supervising a 2-day staff recruitment exercise at the institution aimed at filling vacant positions in the polytechnic.
The exercise, which covers various cardres in the public service, aims to fill vacancies created as a result of retirements, relocations and deaths.
Addressing the applicants, Dr. Awuzie explained that although many candidates were invited for the interview, yet, not all would eventually be employed.
She noted that the recruitment process was designed to be transparent and fair, while also ensuring that the polytechnic operates within its approved financial limits.
# The Anambra State Command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has decorated two hundred and sixteen operatives of the command who benefited from the 2025 promotion exercise with their new ranks in a ceremony held at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, while
speaking during the decoration ceremony,
stated that the promotion is in recognition of the officers’ dedication and contributions to the Corps.
The NSCDC boss emphasized that the promotions represent recognition of the personnel’s sacrifices, professionalism, and contributions to the Corps, and not just a change in rank or title.
Maku praised the officers for their courage and resilience in protecting critical national assets and infrastructure across the country. He urged the newly promoted officers to uphold high ethical standards, lead by example, and mentor junior personnel, stressing the importance of greater accountability and leadership as they assume their new responsibilities.

Yakubu stated that the purpose of his visit was to familiarize himself with the NSCDC and to further seek collaboration in the areas of intelligence and information sharing, access to the Command when the need arises, and other necessary operational cooperation.
He stressed that synergy among security agencies is crucial for effective intelligence sharing, coordination, and swift response to emerging threats in the state.
# Anambra State House of Assembly has urged Governor Chukwuma Soludo to direct the Managing Director, Awka Capital Territory Development Authority (ACTDA) and Chairman, Anambra State Physical Planning Agency (ANSPPA) to intensify their monitoring and enforcement efforts towards ensuring compliance with approved Physical Development Plans, Building Permits, and Layout Schemes in Line with the Awka Capital Territory Law 2020 And Anambra State Physical Planning Law, 2013 respectively.
The call was made at plenary on Thursday through a motion moved by the lawmaker representing Dunukofia Constituency, Bar. Chuks Azotani.
Leading the debate, Hon. Azotan maintained that the Anambra State House of Assembly passed the Awka Capital Territory Law 2020 and Anambra State Physical Planning Law, 2013 respectively, which were duly assented to and which govern all urban and regional planning matters within boundaries of Anambra State.
According to Azotani, who is the House committee Chairman on Environment, the two aforementioned Agencies since their establishment, have been charged with the responsibility of planning, approving, monitoring, and enforcing compliance with regulations governing physical developmentactivities as applicable to each across the State.
# The Chairman, Nigerian Red Cross Society Anambra Branch, Awka South Division, Comrade Emmanuel Ezeobi, says the organization is reinvigorating through well-thought-out strategic plans.
The division Chairman, Comrade Ezeobi while addressing newsmen in Amawbia,
said the plan is focused on strengthening governance, enhancing volunteer base, and improving internal controls.
Ezeobi named some of the volunteer base and plans to include: restructuring of the division to be more active, effective, and visible to the public.
# Barely 24 hours after the Nawgu community endorsed the re-election bid of the incumbent Mayor of Dunukofia Local Government Council with a ₦5,000,000 support fund, Umudioka community has also declared her firm support for the second-term aspiration of Barr. Chijioke Ozumba.
The endorsement was led by the Umudioka APGA Family, who unanimously called for the continuation of what they described as an impactful, people-oriented, and peace-driven administration across Dunukofia Local Government Area.
As a demonstration of confidence and solidarity, the Umudioka APGA Family presented a ₦5,000,000 (Five Million Naira) support fund to back the Mayor’s re-election bid.
Speaking during the endorsement programme, stakeholders took turns to commend Barr. Ozumba for the visible transformation taking place across Dunukofia, with Umudioka community identified as a major beneficiary.
