VP Shettima Tours Kwara Massacre site, Vows Swift Justice

Vice President Kashim Shettima visited the scene of a deadly militant attack in central Nigeria’s Kwara State on Saturday, assuring survivors and bereaved families that the government would relentlessly pursue the perpetrators who slaughtered 75 locals for rejecting extremist ideologies.

The raid struck Woro village in Kaiama district on Tuesday night, targeting Muslims who spurned militants preaching a “strange doctrine,” according to state authorities who initially feared over 100 fatalities but confirmed 75 deaths.

Shettima, dispatched by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, was greeted by Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and toured the affected communities to convey federal sympathies.

“The President has directed that the vice president assess the situation firsthand and convey federal condolences to the grieving families,” said Shettima’s media aide Stany Nkwocha.

Nkwocha added: “VP Shettima is conveying President Tinubu’s strong assurances that the Federal Government will not relent until those responsible are tracked, apprehended, and brought to justice.”

Tinubu condemned the onslaught as “cowardly and beastly,” announcing the deployment of an Army battalion under Operation Savannah Shield to neutralize the threats and safeguard vulnerable areas.

Governor AbdulRazaq described the victims as local Muslims “massacred for refusing to submit to extremists preaching a strange doctrine.”
