# The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) announces the successful conclusion of its primary elections for Mayoral/Chairmanship and Councillorship positions.

In a release signed by Mazi Ejimofor Opara, National Publicity Secretary, APGA, aspirants for the Councillorship position are reminded that 16th February, 2026, is the last day for submitting appeals arising from the conduct of the exercise.

“All appeals should be directed to the Party’s regional office at Awka for processing and determination.

“Furthermore, Councillorship Aspirants are advised to refrain from purchasing the draft for the Party’s nomination form until the final list of candidates is published tonight. We urge all aspirants and stakeholders to note these important deadlines and guidelines”.

# The incumbent Chairman of Dunukofia LGA, Bar. Chijioke Ozumba has officially emerged as the candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the August 2026 Mayoral Election.

Ozumba was returned unopposed at the party’s primary election held at the Dunukofia Local Government Secretariat.

In his acceptance remarks, the Mayor expressed appreciation to Governor Chukwuma Soludo, for providing a level playing field for all aspirants and for upholding internal party democracy.

The local government boss commended the Governor Soludo’s leadership in strengthening APGA’s position as the third-largest political party in Nigeria.

Ozumba further thanked the Governor for his transformational strides across Anambra State, citing extensive rural road construction, achievements in youth development, education, security, and other critical sectors.

The Mayor also extended gratitude to the National Chairman of APGA, Sly Ezeokenwa, and members of the National Working Committee for their steadfast leadership and commitment to party unity.

He acknowledged the State Chairman of APGA, Ifeatu Obiokoye, and the State Working Committee for their role in ensuring a credible nomination process across the state.

# The traditional ruler of Eziowelle Community in Idemili North LGA, Igwe Michael Okonkwo-Etusi, has formally announced the leasing of his property known as Owelle Estate, located at No. 37 Limca Road, Obosi, to the Catholic Archdiocese of Onitsha for use as a hostel facility serving students of the newly established Shanahan University, Onitsha.

In a public statement issued from his palace in Eziowelle, the monarch explained that the decision was taken in good faith as his personal contribution toward promoting moral and educational development among young people.

The property, situated in Obosi within Idemili North LGA, will now serve as student accommodation as the university begins operations.

Igwe Okonkwo-Etusi further appealed to members of the public and former tenants of the estate to refrain from acts capable of disrupting the peaceful transition of the property to its new purpose. He cautioned against spreading misinformation, engaging in slander, or taking the law into their own hands.

The royal father clarified that no tenant or representative was ever granted ownership rights or power of attorney over the property based on duration of tenancy, stressing that ownership remains solely his.

# The Anambra State Task Force on Human Trafficking has reinforced its campaign against child abuse and human trafficking with an awareness outreach at Community Secondary School, Agulu-Awka, in Awka South LGA.

The sensitisation programme, themed “Human Trafficking and Abuse,” was organised in response to a recent incident involving alleged physical assault of a student by her aunt, which the school authorities promptly reported the matter, prompting swift intervention by the Task Force.

Reacting, officials commended the school management for taking decisive action, describing the report as a strong indication that advocacy efforts across the state are beginning to produce tangible results.

They noted that increased vigilance and timely reporting remain critical tools in protecting vulnerable children.

# Honourable Oluchukwu Ilogbenu (Olu-Tech) whose humble beginning was selling phone chargers at Afor-Nnobi market, has emerged candidate of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) for the August 29 Idemili-South Local Government Area chairmanship election.

Ilogbenu who couldn’t withhold his joy and ecstasy when the Returning Officer declared him winner of the election amidst thunderous ovations from delegates, told newsmen that he not only sold phone chargers to survive but also did other businesses to make ends meet as he believes politics was not an occupation.

He said that the incumbent Mayor Hon. Dr. Mrs. Amaka Obi has performed wonderfully well and that the people were happy with her. That his would be to consolidate on her efforts inorder to take Idemili-South Local Government to greater heights.

# The Anambra State Police Command has arrested four additional suspects in connection with the murder of three Cameroonian nationals in the State.

The arrested Suspectes are: alleged Chief Priest of a shrine, Chukwuemeka Emmanuel, also known as “Ugoebenajah,” aged 27 years, Nwabunne Bright (27 years), Chinecherem Chiama (21 years) and Michael Ekwunife (38 years) respectively.

According to Anambra Police Command spokesman, SP. Tochukwu Ikenga, the team also recovered two pump-action guns, one locally made Beretta pistol, one machete, assorted charms, expanded ammunition, ten live cartridges and five live 9mm ammunition in Nando community, Anambra East Local Government Area.

“This feat was recorded last Friday, February 13, 2026. Given the confession of the two earlier arrested suspects in custody, the Command Operatives attached to the Rapid Response Squad Awkuzu swiftly mobilised to the identified shrine in Nando.

“On approaching the shrine, about thirty able-bodied men were observed gathered at the premises. Upon sighting the Police, the armed men opened fire on the operatives.

“The Police operatives responded professionally, engaging the armed men in a gun duel. While the prime suspect, Uchenna Mmaduamaka Nicholas, a native of Oroma Etiti Anam escaped alongside other gang members with bullet wounds.

“Also during the gun battle, one of the arrested armed suspects sustained a bullet injury on the thigh and was immediately taken to a hospital where he is currently receiving medical treatment.

“The arrested suspects are currently undergoing interrogation, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the fleeing members of the criminal gang.

“The Command reiterates its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of all residents and urges members of the public to continue to provide useful information that will aid ongoing investigations.” Ikenga stated.

# The leadership of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have resolved to enhance their collaborative efforts in tackling fraud and other forms of economic and financial crimes in Anambra State.

This resolution was made when Mr. Ofen-Imu Atiba Sunday, the Zonal Director of the newly created EFCC Zonal Directorate, Awka, paid a courtesy visit to Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC Anambra State Commandant, at the NSCDC State Command Headquarters, Awka on Monday February 16, 2026.

Speaking during the visit, the EFCC Zonal Commander, informed the State Commandant that he recently assumed office and was on familiarization visit aimed at strengthening and deepening existing relationships between the two agencies.

Responding, Commandant Maku Olatunde commended the EFCC for its continuous efforts to rid the country of economic and financial crimes. He reaffirmed the commitment of the NSCDC to supporting the EFCC’s mandate.

The NSCDC State head said the Commandant General of NSCDC, Prof. Ahmed Abubakar Audi, has no tolerance for corruption, fraud, or financial misconduct. This stance, according to him, has led to successful investigations and prosecutions of cases involving job racketeering, fraud, and other financial crimes.

# Anambra Businessman Emeka Okonkwo (popularly known as E-Money) and his brother, music star Kcee, have completed the construction of a 3.4-kilometre road in their hometown of Amamputu, Uli, in Ihiala, Anambra State.

The road project, reportedly began towards the end of December, and has been delivered in less than six weeks. It features streetlights and drainage systems on both sides, aimed at improving transportation and addressing erosion challenges within the community.

In addition to the road project, the two brothers also flagged off the construction of a hospital in Amamputu, Uli. The hospital is being built in memory of their late father, as part of their efforts to give back to their community.
