# Governor Chukwuma Soludo, has met with shop owners at the state’s Main Market, informing them of the government’s decision to proceed with the demolition and comprehensive remodeling of the trading complex following the expiration of the initial two-week notice and the one-month extension.

The meeting with the shop owners at the Light House, Awka, is part of a broader effort to rescue and regenerate the market, which the Governor described as having deteriorated significantly.

Governor Soludo emphasized that his administration is a government that cares for its people, including future generations, stating that the current state of the Main Market is unsustainable and cannot survive the next decade in its present condition.

 

# The Member representing Ayamelum Constituency, Bernard Udemezue, has disclosed that he almost resigned from politics when his suspension from the Anambra State House of Assembly became overwhelming and was later renewed for another three months.

Hon. Udemezue, who resumed plenary after his recall, made the revelation while addressing Assembly correspondents at the legislative complex.

According to the lawmaker, the prolonged suspension took an emotional and political toll, especially as some constituents who initially supported his cause began to withdraw and question his stance.

# Students’ science innovations and creative works were showcased during the fifth edition of the Science and Technology Exhibition for primary and junior secondary schools in Anambra State, organised by the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), held at the ASUBEB premises, Awka.

Addressing the gathering, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nwadinobi, explained that the exhibition reflects the Board’s unwavering commitment to innovation, creativity, and scientific curiosity among young learners, noting that such a programme provides a unique platform for pupils and students to demonstrate practical knowledge, originality, and problem-solving skills through science- and technology-driven ideas.

Dr. Nwadinobi further said that the exhibition is deliberately designed to strengthen Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEM) education at the foundation level, stating that by encouraging hands-on learning and critical thinking, ASUBEB is equipping Anambra children with the skills required to adapt, innovate, and excel in a rapidly evolving global environment, even as she commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo, whose deliberate reforms and investments in education, innovation, and technology continue to reposition the state as a centre of excellence and a true Solution Ground.

On his part, the keynote speaker at the event, Professor Dennis Aribodo, who spoke on “STEM and Society,” emphasized that without a good foundation in STEM, Nigeria will lack a sound health system, engineering infrastructure, and water resources management.

# The Tricycle Owners Association of Nigeria, Awka South branch has hailed the activities and services of the Special Anti-Touting Squad (SASA) led by the managing director, Hon Monday Nwokoye in Anambra state.

Chairman of the union in Awka South, Comrade Prince Ozojiofor stated this when he played host at the one-day training of road users in Anambra organised by the Ministry of Transport in collaboration with Rotary Club International, District 1942.

Responding to questions of allegations on the issues of extortion by some leaders of TOAN, Hon Prince Ozojiofor emphasised that the primary responsibility of TOAN as a trade union is to oversee the welfare of its members and not to extort money from anyone.

 

# The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr Simeon Onyemaechi, has announced it increased reserved funds of N5.4 billion within the period under review, adding to N1.7 billion reserved from the previous administration of Chief Willie Obiano, total N7.1 billion since it establishmen.

Onyemaechi who disclosed this while speaking to Journalists at his office in Awka, also announced increased enrollment figured of 330,000 persons within the period as against 140,901from previous government.

The MD attributed the improved achievements to governor Soludo’s unwavering commitment towards quality healthcare delivery service to the people of Anambra State.

 

# The Anambra State Government has inaugurated a new caretaker committee for Nkwo Umunze Market, Orumba South Local Government Area, following the dissolution of the former leadership over non-compliance with the state government’s directive on Monday trading.

The inauguration, carried out through the Office of the Special Adviser to the Governor on Trade and Markets, Chief Evarist Uba, is aimed at ensuring effective administration of the market and improved government revenue collection.

Speaking during the inauguration, Chief Uba reiterated the government’s position that markets across Anambra state must operate fully on Mondays, noting that the sit-at-home order has since been relaxed in the state.

He warned the newly constituted committee that failure to ensure full compliance with Monday trading activities would attract immediate dissolution.

# Anambra state government has officially taken possession of the expansive premises belonging to the convicted native doctor, Chidozie Nwangwu, popularly known as Akwa Okuko Tiwara Aki.

The action follows the recent High Court judgment in Awka, where Nwangwu pleaded guilty to charges bordering on conspiracy to commit kidnapping against him.

Operatives of the state’s specialized security outfit, Agunechemba, stormed the compound in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area, an operation that saw the total destruction of his main shrine and the burning of various ritual items, including the controversial “Oke Ite” (the Big Pot), which the government maintains was used to fortify criminal elements.

Under the Agunechemba Law (Anambra Homeland Security Law), the state is empowered to seize and forfeit any property used to facilitate kidnapping or ritual-based crimes, destroy structures or items identified as instruments of “fetish criminality” that threaten public peace, take over land and assets belonging to individuals convicted of providing spiritual cover for gunmen.

Speaking to journalists at the site of the demolition, the Special Adviser to Governor Chukwuma Soludo on Community Security, Mr. Ken Emeakayi emphasized the government’s “zero-tolerance” policy, stating that the action is not an attack on tradition, but a surgical operation against criminality disguised as religion.

# The Pentecostal Bishops Association, Anambra State Incorporated (PBAAS), has charged President Bola Tinubu to release the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, unconditionally and correct the imbalance in Nigeria’s polity.

The religious leaders made the appeal during the 2026 Annual Convocation of the Pentecostal Bishops Association held at Church in Power, Agu Awka, and delivered by the Executive President of the Association, Bishop Prince Augustine Nwodika.

The bishops in a communiqué stated that the imbalance in the polity has aggravated agitations from the South East and, in the spirit of equity, fairness, and socio-economic balance in the system, noted that such measures would significantly improve the much-needed peace and security in the South East.

The communiqué encouraged the Church to remain a shining light in a dark world and to be strong in faith, especially at a time like this, because it is only faith in Christ that can overcome the challenges in the world.
