A Senator has called on Peoples Democratic Party leaders to abandon ongoing litigation and prioritise reconciliation following a Court of Appeal decision on the party’s national convention.
Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, representing Kogi Central, issued the appeal in a personally signed statement on Monday, describing the ruling as a decisive moment for the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
“The Court of Appeal has spoken, and as a democratic party that believes in the rule of law, we must shift focus from litigation to reconciliation and rebuilding,” she said.
She warned that prolonged internal disputes risked harming ordinary members: “Our members across the grassroots must not become casualties of prolonged disagreements among leaders. Their aspirations and the future of our party must remain paramount.”
Akpoti-Uduaghan urged party stakeholders to demonstrate statesmanship through compromise and to organise an inclusive national convention that fully complies with guidelines from the Independent National Electoral Commission.
The PDP has been embroiled in factional disputes over its leadership and convention processes, with the latest Court of Appeal judgement seen by many as a potential turning point for internal unity.
