Idemili North LGA Rename ‘Limca Road’ After ‘Emeka Anyaoku…We are naming this road after him as a fitting tribute to his legacy, achievements, and contributions to our communities
Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State have renamed the strategic Limca Road connecting Awka Old Road, Nkpor Junction, Onitsha-Awka-Enugu Expressway and Obosi-Umuoji Road, among others as “Ichie Emeka Anyaoku Road.”
The local government Chairman of Idemili North, Chief Stanley Nkwoka, in his address, held at the popular Nkpor Junction, said the exercise serves as a reminder of Anyaoku’s selfless contributions to the community and to inspire the youths to strive for greatness.
The Mayor said the Local Government
embarked on the journey of honouring the former Commonwealth secretary-general to inspire future generations to emulate his values, work ethic, and commitment to excellence.
Nkwoka noted that the renaming of the road passed through legislative processes at the council, and it was adopted and passed into law.
“We are celebrating Anyaoku today by renaming the Limca Road to ‘Ichie Emeka Anyaoku Road’, because he is a great example to society. He is being held in high esteem across the world for his contributions to the community, nation and international affairs.
“Time has passed when we celebrated those with blemished character or those who sprayed money in public spaces.
“Although the former Commonwealth secretary-general has received several global honours and recognitions, we are honouring this great son of Idemili by naming this road after him as a fitting tribute to his legacy, achievements, and contributions to our communities and the world. We are all proud of this great son of Idemili.”
Also speaking, the former Minister of Aviation, Chief Osita Chidoka, described Anyaoku, an indigene of Obosi in Idemili North LGA, as a man worthy of emulation.
Chidoka noted that Anyaoku not only served as a Commonwealth secretary-general, but he did the job without any blemish, adding that even the Queen of England confirmed his integrity.
Responding, Anyaoku, who was represented at the ceremony by the President-General, Obosi Development Union Worldwide, Ambassador Chimezie Obi, appreciated the LGA for the honour, describing it as the “most cherished” among the recognitions he has received.
Obi said the recognition is well deserved as Anyaoku’s contributions to the community, nation, and the world at large remain immeasurable.
