Singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P of the defunct P-Square duo, has officially announced a change to his birth date, shifting celebrations from November 18 to November 30.
The 44-year-old musician made the declaration in a brief post on his X (formerly Twitter) account on Monday, sparking widespread reactions online.
“I am officially changing my birthday date. I’m making it official. November 18th is no longer my birthday celebration date. Please note that I will not be accepting any messages or gifts on that day,” Okoye wrote.
“My birthday will now be celebrated on November 30th. This is a personal decision, and I truly appreciate your understanding,” he added.
Okoye did not provide any explanation for the change, which separates his celebration from that of his identical twin brother, Paul Okoye, known as Rudeboy. The twins, born on November 18, 1981, have had a well-documented history of public disputes, including management conflicts and a temporary split of their award-winning music group.
The announcement has drawn intense speculation on social media, with many interpreting the move as a further step in distancing himself from his brother amid lingering family tensions. Some users described it as symbolic, while others expressed surprise at the unusual decision.
Peter and Paul rose to fame as P-Square in the 2000s, dominating African pop music with hits before internal disagreements led to their breakup around 2017. They reconciled in 2021 and released new music together, but reports suggest underlying issues over finances, royalties and management have resurfaced in recent years.
The singer’s decision comes against the backdrop of ongoing public interest in the Okoye family dynamics, which have frequently made headlines in Nigeria’s entertainment circles.
No immediate comment was available from Paul Okoye (Rubeboy) or other family members. Fans and observers continue to debate the implications of the date change as the November birthday season approaches.
