# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Nwabunwanne Okonkwo as the pioneer Chief Executive officer of the newly established Anambra State Development and Investment Corporation (ADIC) to execute the corporation’s mandate of attracting, financing and overseeing major business and infrastructure project development and private sector investment in Anambra State.
Okonkwo’s appointments was announced in a press statement signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor
Nwabunwanne Okonkwo is a finance lawyer with over 16 years experience in the financial service sector.
Prior to his appointment at ADIC, Okonkwo was the Managing Director of DLM Advisory, the investment banking arm of DLM Capital Group, a development investment bank leading innovative transactions in Nigeria, where he helped mobilise in excess of $1 billion to different governments and corporates across several industries in Africa.
Okonkwo is 39 years old and holds a masters degree in corporate finance from Wayne State University, Michigan USA.
# Ahead of the 2027 general elections, a Chieftain of the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Dr. Chris Nwokedi, has appealed to the party leadership and governor Chukwuma Soludo to considered him with the party ticket for Ogbaru Federal Constituency.
Nwokedi lamented that he has been contesting for the seat to represent the Constituency at the National Assembly Abuja since 2010 as a faithful and committed party man without success.
Nwokedi made the plead during his official declaration at Umudaike Village, Atani, Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State.
He begged the party and the governor to help consider him this time for the sake of fairness and equity. He promised to remain grateful with APGA, if putting into consideration.
# The Chief Executive Officer of Flutterwave, a leading African Fintech company, Mr Olugbenga Agboola, has announced plans to make Anambra State the company’s hub in the South East.
Agboola was in Awka recently, with the CEO of Stanel Group and proprietor of Delborough Hotel, Dr Stanley Uzochukwu, where they were received by players in the Anambra Tech Community.
Agboola who recently got a banking licence from the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), said with the new licence, he hoped to further simplify payment systems in the Fintech Ecosystem and impact more on businesses in Nigeria, especially Anambra State.
# The Standard Organization of Nigeria (SON) has presented Mandatory Conformity Assessment Programme (MANCAP) certificates to companies in Nnewi, Anambra State as some of them received recertification.
The event which took place in the industrial town was attended by 29 companies with 105 product brands under MANCAP which the agency inspected as part of the processes to qualify them.
Director-General of SON, Dr Ifeanyi Chukwunonso Okeke described the event as a celebration of excellence, innovation, and the unyielding commitment of the local manufacturers to meet and exceed the quality standards that drive Nigeria’s industrial growth and consumer confidence.
He noted that the importance of standards is the backbone of sustainable industrialization and economic development.
# There is mounting tension at Igbariam Farm Settlement in Anambra East LGA following the attack on the Anglican and Catholic churches in the area by youths of the community.
Venerable Obiora Igbokwe of the Christ Anglican Church, Igbariam, who narrated the incident, said he was lucky to have escaped being lynched by the youths, who, he said, claimed that they were there, to harvest palm fruits in the massive settlement established by the defunct Eastern Nigerian Government of the late Dr. Michael Okpara.
Igbokwe said that during the attack, which took place at the weekend, he lost one 3kv generator, 30 pieces of 16mm rods, 15 goats, sheep and rams, mobile phones and their chargers, some aluminium frames and clothes.
According to him, the attackers also attempted to remove the church’s water pump machine but found it difficult as the rope holding the sumo cut off, thus making the sumo to sink inside the borehole.
# A 27-year-old scholar, Ogoo Onwuka, has achieved a remarkable academic milestone after successfully completing her Ph.D thesis in Medical and Pharmacological Biochemistry.
Ogoo, who studied at Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), has now been recognized as the youngest Ph.D holder in the institution’s history.
Her achievement has drawn admiration from many, as it reflects years of dedication, discipline, and intellectual excellence at a relatively young age.
# The Senator representing Anambra South District, Chief Emma Nwachukwu says over thirty active erosion sites in the zone have received the attention of the Federal Ministry of Environment following a letter he wrote to the Ecological Project Office of the Presidency concerning the erosion sites.
Nwachukwu disclosed this during an interactive session with members of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) across the senatorial zone at St Mary Catholic Church, Ukpor Centre, in Nnewi South Local Government Area.
Senator Nwachukwu stated that Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has equally written to President Bola Tinubu about them.
The lawmaker revealed that he is going to meet President Tinubu with Governor Soludo in a few weeks’ time to approve the report of the Ministry of Environment about the erosion sites so that they will be rehabilitated with Ecological Funds.
# The clamour for equity and fair representation in Anambra State’s political leadership has intensified, as the Convener of Anambra 2030 for Awka-North and South Governorship
Mandate Demand, Chief Michael Chukwuemeka Mmekwe, has called on all political parties to ensure that candidates for the 2030 governorship election emerge strictly from Awka North and South Federal Constituency.
Chief Mmekwe insisted that justice, fairness and the established zoning principle demand that the next governor of Anambra State be produced from the constituency, which he noted is yet to occupy the exalted seat.
Speaking during a media engagement and the unveiling of the movement, the prominent stakeholder of The New Face of Amanuke pressure group, Chief Mmekwe stressed that while other federal constituencies such as Idemili North and South, as well as Anaocha–Njikoka–Dunukofia, have produced governors, Awka North and South remains the only bloc yet to be given the opportunity.
He maintained that allowing Awka North and South to produce the next governor would restore balance, strengthen unity, and ensure development across the state.
# The Anambra State Physical Planning Board (ANSPPB) has executed a demolition exercise in Oyi Local Government Area in furtherance of its statutory mandate to ensure strict compliance with physical planning laws and regulations.
The operation, carried out by the ANSPPB Enforcement Team, was conducted at Aniogazi, Ezinkwerre, Nkwerre Ezunaka, along the Onitsha–Enugu Expressway.
During the exercise, an uncompleted structure and its perimeter fence, both constructed without requisite government approval, were removed.
An official of the Oyi Local Planning Authority (LPA), who identified himself only as Chuks, confirmed that the development lacked the necessary approvals. He stated that the LPA had, on multiple occasions, visited the site and conspicuously marked “stop work” notices on the structure, all of which were willfully disregarded.
