Nollywood actor and politician Yul Edochie has claimed that Peter Obi’s presidential ambitions remain tied to the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), the party the former Anambra governor once swore never to leave.
In a widely circulated social media post on Tuesday, Edochie asserted that Obi’s political setbacks since leaving APGA stem from breaking a solemn oath made before the late Igbo leader Chukwuemeka Odumegwu-Ojukwu and the people of Anambra State.
“Peter Obi’s Presidential ambition is tied to APGA. The party he swore he will never leave,” Edochie wrote.
He recalled that Obi had vowed to “die with APGA” and invoked a strong personal consequence. “He said if he leaves APGA may he never achieve anything politically,” the actor stated.
Edochie argued that Obi’s departure from the party explains his limited political success in recent years. “He later left APGA. That’s why he hasn’t achieved anything politically since then. That’s why people used his name to win elections in 2023 while he, the owner of the name lost,” he added.
He expressed surprise that Obi had not recognised the supposed impact of the broken oath. “I’m surprised he hasn’t realized this. Oaths are very powerful,” Edochie declared.
The actor dismissed Obi’s current political engagements, particularly moves linked to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), as futile. “Whatever he’s doing with ADC is a waste of time,” he said.
However, Edochie suggested Obi could still realise his presidential dream in 2031, after President Bola Tinubu’s tenure. “Peter Obi has chances of being President in 2031 after TINUBU, but he can only do it with APGA,” he concluded.
Edochie’s remarks have sparked fresh debate on social media about loyalty, oaths in politics and Obi’s future political platform. Obi, who served as Anambra governor on the APGA ticket from 2006 to 2014 before later joining the Labour Party for his 2023 presidential bid, has not publicly responded to the claims.
