# An Nnewi High court has restrained Inspector General of Police, IGP Tunde Disu, head of IGP’s Special Investigation Unit, (SIU) Force headquarters Abuja, Assist Commissioner of Police, (ACP), Moses Jolugbo and Investigating Police Officer, IPO Superintendent of Police, (SP), Shoulamite Ilodigwe, from arresting and detaining chairman, Ozomagala Building Materials Traders’ Association Onitsha, Obiora Okoro.

Others restrained from demolishing properties of the plaintiffs were: Dr. Mike Arinze Modebe, Chidimma Dumeje Beverly Ibegbu, Mr. Ikechukwu Modebe, and Modebe Enterprises Ltd.

The plaintiffs, Okoro and the Incorporated Trustees of Ozomagala Building Materials Traders’ Association,  sued the defendants, for interfering in their fundamental human rights

The Presiding judge, Hon. Justice V.N. Agbata gave the order after hearing the submissions of Arinze Obidozie Esq, counsel for the plaintiffs, in the suit No HN/MISC 50/2026 and motion No HN/483m/2026

Reliefs sought by the plaintiffs included, a declaration that the threat to further arrest and detain the 1st applicant and further demolish the applicants’ leased properties by the respondents is unconstitutional and breached the applicants’ rights as protected by law.

# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has appointed Most Rev. Dr. Matthew Hassan Kukah, Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, as the Chancellor of the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, Anambra State.

The appointment was announced in a press statement signed by Mr. Christian Aburime, Chief Press Secretary to the Governor

Bishop Matthew Hassan Kukah is an eminent Nigerian intellectual and cleric whose contributions integrate academic scholarship with pursuit of social justice in Nigeria.

Kukah attended St. Augustine Major Seminary Jos, Plateau State, where he studied Philosophy and Theology; the University of Ibadan, where he obtained a diploma in religious studies; the Pontifical Urban University, Rome, where he got a bachelor of divinity; followed by a master’s degree in peace studies at the University of Bradford, and a Ph.D. from University of London’s School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS) in 1990.

Bishop Kukah also at certain times studied at the University of Oxford, United Kingdom, and at Harvard University, in Cambridge, Massachusetts,  in the United States.

Bishop Kukah is also a prolific author and the founder of ‘The Kukah Centre’ where he has pioneered research-driven advocacy aimed at interfaith harmony and policy reform.

# The School of General Studies, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, on Monday, took a bold step toward the future of teaching and learning as it commenced training programme for its lecturers on the online delivery of GST courses, marking the pilot phase of a Learning Management System (LMS) initiative in collaboration with Qverse Learning Ltd.

The exercise, which signals a strategic shift toward digital pedagogy in the University, is designed to test the viability of full-scale LMS deployment across faculties, with a long-term goal of institutional adoption.

In her opening remarks, the Director of the School of General Studies, Prof. Philomena Igbokwe, described the training as a critical pilot phase that would shape the future of instructional delivery in the University. She charged participating lecturers to approach the exercise with commitment and professionalism, stressing that the initiative would not accommodate complacency or lack of seriousness.

According to her, the success of the pilot would determine its expansion across faculties, noting that participants would be required to sign an undertaking of commitment with the School to ensure accountability and due diligence. She expressed confidence in the outcome of the programme, which, she said, aligns with the broader vision of digitising teaching and learning in the institution.

Reacting, House of Representatives aspirant, Azubuike Ekweozor, described the move as a step toward fairness and grassroots participation. Similarly, Chukwudi Oli said the decision would strengthen party loyalty and reward active members.

Another aspirant, Chukwuemeka Orjiakor, noted that the system would end claims of “anointed candidates,” urging politicians to engage more with their constituencies.

Also speaking, Prince Okeke Chinemelu said the adoption of Option A4 would test the credibility and popularity of aspirants within party structures.

Prof. Igbokwe commended the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bond Ugochukwu Anyaehie, for providing the enabling environment that made the initiative possible, describing the move as timely and transformative.

# 4 people from Ekwulobia, 4 people from Umuchu, 2 persons from Igbo-Ukwu, 2 persons from Isuofia, 1 person from Uga, 1 person from Amesi, 1 person from Ezinifite, are set to be trained by Innoson Kiara Academy as sponsored by Mayor of Aguata LGA

Mayor of Aguata LGA, Dr Chibueze Ofobuike, selected fifteen young people from communities in Aguata LGA.

These 15 youths will be sponsored by the Mayor to be trained at the Innoson Kiara Academy, Nnewi, Nigeria.

The fifteen beneficiaries emerged after a careful selection process and will undergo three (3) months training on Auto Mechanics (mechanical and electrical/electronic) and Vehicle Body Building (panel beating and spray painting).

# BLord has promised to invite Nigeria Political activist Omoyele Sowore to Anambra state, particularly to his hometown Ebenebe, and celebrate him with a chieftaincy title as Ekwe Ekwe 1 na Ebenebe.

Speaking after his release, BLord noted that he has never met or spoken with Sowore before, but Sowore heard that he was being intimidated and showed up for him.

According to him, his bail hearing was supposed to be on the 27th of April but Sowore helped to make it faster and it was brought closer than expected.

He also added that he now ready to join the Sowore popular movement #RevolutionNow.

# The emergence of a surprise claimant to the royal throne of Ossomalla community in Ogbaru LGA has unsettled residents and stirred controversy across the area.

The community’s recognised traditional ruler, His Royal Highness (HRH) Igwe Victor Awogu, alongside cabinet chiefs and members of the agrarian riverine town on the banks of the River Niger, has questioned how one Patrick Ugboma, also known as Sule, came to proclaim himself king over the people.

During the Easter holidays, Ugboma — a politician, oil and gas businessman and philanthropist — reportedly assembled a group of young men, conferred chieftaincy titles on them, and publicised the event in the media, where he was described as the traditional ruler of Ossomalla.

Reports also show that  he has been parading himself within the community and neighbouring towns as its monarch.

# Residents of Umuogem village in Ufuma, have raised alarm over what they describe as the prolonged occupation of their community by armed hoodlums.

A community stakeholder, Chief Okafor, recounted a recent confrontation, stating that soldiers engaged the armed group in a gun battle within the village. According to him, one of the hoodlums was reportedly killed during the clash. He further alleged that the group operates from nearby forests, where they have established a stronghold.

An anonymous resident described a troubling incident said to have occurred on April 18, 2026. According to the account, a villager, Mr. Jude Chukwu, was accused by the group of being an informant. His family was allegedly abducted, prompting him to surrender himself.

While his wife and children were later released, he was reportedly executed in front of his shop. His two legs were shattered and they also shot him in the head. The resident said fear gripped the community afterward, with many too afraid to approach the scene immediately.

Community members claim the situation has persisted for more than four years. The group-once regarded by some as “freedom fighters”-is now widely accused of engaging in extortion, violence, and intimidation. Residents say normal life has been disrupted, with shops closed and people living in constant fear.

# Aspirants under the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) have commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for adopting the Option A4 voting system for the party’s primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections.
