# Anambra Police Command says it’s operatives attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department have concluded investigations into several cases of sexual and child abuse-related offences.

The cases include that of a father who was accused of having an affair with his daughter and infested her with viral disease.

A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer in Anambra State, Tochukwu Ikenga explains that the five suspects involved in different sexually abuse cases that were investigated by the command would be arraigned before a Special Court sitting in Awka.

The statement further indicates that the Gender unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department last month received report of the defilement of a 16-year old girl, from Ogbunike Police Division.

Preliminary investigation into the matter shows that the suspect Chukwuemeka Chidiebere, a 26 years old security personnel in a housing estate in the area, allegedly forced himself on the victim while she was on her way to visit a friend within the estate.

# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra Command has carried out sensitization campaign on safe plying and crossing of highway by motorists and pedestrians.

The campaign which was carried out around Regina Caeli junction, Awka, included free drunk driving test on drivers at the parks within the area.

Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, while speaking during the campaign, said the exercise is part of their responsibility and is targeted at ensuring reduction of Road Traffic Crashes (RTC) in the state by 10 percent.

The FRSC boss further explained that essence of drunk driving tests were to ensure drivers avoid drinking while at work.

# A frontline aspirant for the Anambra State House of Assembly, Idemili South Constituency, Chief Mrs. Amaka Obi, has continued her consultations ahead of the 2027 elections with a courtesy visit to the Traditional Ruler of Alor Kingdom, His Royal Highness, Igwe Mac Anthony Okonkwo.

The visit, part of her stakeholder engagement efforts, took place at the royal palace, where she formally presented her intention to contest for the legislative seat.

Speaking during the meeting, Obi said her decision to run for office is driven by a strong commitment to effective representation and constituency development. She assured the monarch of her commitment to people-focused policies and responsive leadership if elected.

# The 144th Senate of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU,
convened at the Senate Chambers, where five members were elected to represent the University in its Governing Council.

The meeting, chaired by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Azuka Omenugha, drew strong participation, with 128 accredited senators taking part in the electoral process. The exercise underscored the University’s commitment to democratic governance and inclusive representation.

Following a keenly contested nomination and voting process, five distinguished academics emerged as Senate representatives to the Council.

They include Dr. Chinonso Ekesiobi of the Department of Economics, who secured 36 votes; Prof. MaryJude Igbodika of Biological Sciences with 33 votes; Prof. Nkeriuka Orji of Medical Laboratory Science with 19 votes; Prof. Ogonna Ifebi of Economics with 14 votes; and Prof. Mathias Ananti of Public Administration, who polled 12 votes. A total of 10 votes were recorded as invalid.

# Anambra Police command has received a report of defilement of an 11 year old girl, from Neni Police Divisional Headquaters on the 23rd of last month.

The male suspect, Uchenna Muojama, aged 36 years, allegedly lured the victim inside his Barbing saloon where he forcefully had sex with her.

In a reaction, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Orutugu described the cases as heinous and unacceptable, and expressed the Command’s commitment to protect vulnerable persons, especially children
He gave the assurance that all the offenders in the cases would be brought to justice.

# The people of Ihiala Federal Constituency have unanimously endorsed Dr. Paschal Agbodike, the member representing the constituency in the House of Representatives, for a second term in office.

The people, who spoke through the leaders of the four zones and various communities that make up Ihiala Federal Constituency during Dr. Agbodike’s interactive session with his constituents and official declaration of interest for re-election into the 11th Assembly, disclosed that they made the endorsement based on his spectacular performance within three years in office.

While appreciating the good works of the federal lawmaker in the constituency, the Mayor of Ihiala LGA, Engineer Anayor Orjiakor, commended the people for recognizing Agbodike’s achievements and prayed that God would grant their request.

Speaking, Dr. Agbodike enumerated the developmental projects he accomplished in every community in the federal constituency through the support of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo and his constituents, and thanked the Governor for restoring normalcy and security in the area.

# A stakeholder in the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), Mr. Somuadina Ojukwu, has called on Governor Chukwuma Soludo, to consider recognising the contributions of philanthropist and party loyalist, Chief Chinedu Nduka Okoye.

In an open letter addressed to the governor, Ojukwu commended Soludo’s administration for ongoing developmental strides across the state, while urging him to acknowledge individuals who have made significant grassroots impact outside formal government structures.

According to him, Okoye has distinguished himself through sustained humanitarian and empowerment initiatives across Anambra State, particularly in youth development, education support, and community welfare.

# The Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) Igbariam, Anambra State has taken a significant step toward advancing agricultural innovation and food security through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SARBJJACK FARMS.

The agreement, signed recently, centers on a Public-Private Partnership (PPP) for the establishment of F1 hybrid plantain and Smooth Cayenne pineapple plantations within the University community.

Speaking during the event at the VIce Chancellor’s conference hall, the representative of SARBJJACK FARMS, Mr. Pat Nwume, described the partnership as timely and impactful.

According to him, preliminary work on the project has already commenced, including land preparation through ploughing. “We are here to set up a plantain plantation and a pineapple plantation. We have done the preliminary by ploughing. We remain committed. The partnership is a good one and is going to be beneficial not only to the University but to the nation entirely,” he stated.

In her remarks, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kate Omenugha, expressed optimism about the collaboration, emphasizing its academic and practical value to the institution. She noted that the initiative aligns with the University’s vision of bridging theory and practice, particularly for students of the Faculty of Agriculture.
