# Former Deputy Chief Press Secretary to Governor of Anambra State, Hon Emeka Ozumba, has picked the Expression of Interest (EOI) form to contest for a a set in the Anambra State House of Assembly.
Ozumba is running for the ticket of All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) to represent Njikọka 1 Constituency.
Ozumba who fulfilled the necessary requirements and obtained the EOI Form at APGA National Secretariat, Abuja FCT has been engaged in consultation with his constituents to rally them behind his aspiration.
A communications strategist with over two decades of cross cultural experience spanning private and public sectors, Ozumba joins the race with a burning zeal to serve.
# Anambra government has drawn the attention of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Anambra State Directorate, Awka, to the ongoing circulation of a counterfeit Otrivan Nasal Drops in Nigeria.
This was contained in a letter signed and brought to the office of State Director, National Orientation Agency, Awka, Barrister Lady Ifeoma Chijioke by the Secretary to Anambra State Government , Mrs Chiamaka Nnake.
According to the letter, NAFDAC had before now issued a warning letter to the reporting agency against such products, but to no avail.
The reporting agency has also identified suspicious batch numbers such as 7U8T and SU8X indicating them as counterfeit products in contrast to the genuine Otrivin products with registration numbers 04-5350 for children and 04-0026 for adults.
# The Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA) has commenced the second quarter registration of the Global Fund Enrollment exercise across all 21 Local Government Areas of the state, aimed at expanding access to quality and affordable healthcare services, particularly for individuals living with HIV and Tuberculosis.
In a major boost, eligible enrollees can now register their spouses and children as dependents, enabling entire families to benefit from comprehensive healthcare services at no cost under the scheme.
As part of the enrollment requirements, residents are expected to present their National Identification Number (NIN), which is essential for successful registration into the programme.
Speaking during the exercise, the Executive Secretary and Chief Executive Officer of ASHIA, Dr. Ezeka Augustine-Uwaeme, highlighted the importance of the initiative, describing it as a strategic intervention to improve public health outcomes and reduce the financial burden of healthcare on residents.
He stated that, in addition to free HIV and Tuberculosis treatment, the programme also offers general medical checkups and diagnostic services at no cost.
# The President General of Umueri General Assembly (UGA), on behalf of sons and daughters of Umueri, strongly condemns the disturbing and inhumane assault on a young lady, which has recently gone viral across various social media platforms.
Preliminary findings confirm that the incident occurred in Udabor, Otuocha, Umueri community, several days prior to its circulation online.
The entire Umueri community unequivocally condemns this act of violence and reiterates that such behavior is unacceptable, regardless of the individuals involved or their background.
Upon receiving credible information about the incident, the President General acted swiftly by engaging the Otuocha Divisional Police Station, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspected perpetrators, who have been identified as young women.
The suspects have since been handed over to the Nigeria Police Force, and investigations are currently ongoing.
# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC, Anambra State Command, has assured the management of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University, COOU, Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, of its commitment to strengthening security within the premises.
Commandant Maku Olatunde, the NSCDC State Commandant, stated this when he received Dr. Maureen Uche Umeakuewulu, the Chief Medical Director, CMD, of COOU,
Teaching Hospital, Amaku-Awka, and her management team on a courtesy visit, at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.
Speaking during the visit, Commandant Maku congratulated the CMD on her well-deserved appointment, noting that her wealth of experience as a distinguished consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist would reposition the hospital to be one of the best in the country.
He reaffirmed that the protection of critical national, state, and local government assets, including healthcare institutions, remains a core mandate of the Corps.
The NSCDC State Commandant pledged to deploy proactive security measures, enhance intelligence sharing, and collaborate closely with the hospital to safeguard patients, staff, and facilities.
In her speech, the CMD, Dr. Umeakuewulu,
stated that the purpose of her visit was to formally introduce the hospital’s new management to the Command and to seek stronger collaboration in addressing the hospital’s security needs.
Umeakuewulu noted that the safety of patients, staff, medical equipment, and hospital infrastructure is critical to the effective delivery of healthcare services.
# The Anambra State Native Doctors and Herbal Medicine Association has presented vehicles to its taskforce teams in the three senatorial zones to monitor the enforcement of the Anambra Homeland Security Law and facilitate its activities across the state.
The President of the Association, Chief Anayochukwu Edekobi while handing over the vehicles to the zones during its quarterly meeting at Igbakwu, Ayamelum Council Area, said the Association is determined to complement the efforts of Governor Chukwuma Soludo towards sanitizing and securing the state.
Edekobi explained that the Association has put in place stringent measures to weed out bad elements who tarnish the image of native doctors by encouraging and enabling crimes and social vices in any form, as members are encouraged to uphold moral and ethical conduct in their practices aimed at contributing towards improving the state health system through traditional medicine.
# The Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Mrs. Chiamaka Nnake, has said that the Anambra State Government under the leadership of Prof. Chukwuma Soludo has recorded remarkable achievements across critical sectors in its first term, reaffirming the administration’s commitment to building a livable and prosperous homeland for Ndi Anambra
Mrs. Nnake said this during her appearance on the ABS TV “Good Morning Anambra” programme, where she spoke extensively on strengthening governance in Anambra State, the administration’s priorities, progress, and the importance of partnership in driving sustainable development.

# Valentine Ozigbo, the award-winning global business leader and inspirational political figure, was conferred with the prestigious chieftaincy title Ugo Igbo Ji Di Ebube by the Directorate of Igbo Village and the Institute of African Heritage Studies (IVIAHS), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, during the 2026 Igu-Aro Festival.
The event, held at the ASUU Secretariat of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, drew a distinguished cross-section of Igbo society and formed part of the annual Igu-Aro Festival hosted by IVIAHS under the leadership of its Director, Very Rev. Fr. Prof.

“In the Igbo worldview,” he said, “time is not merely counted. It is interpreted, organised, and lived. It gives rhythm to work, meaning to seasons, structure to community, and direction to life.”
Explaining the philosophical depth of the Igbo calendar, Ozigbo noted that the traditional lunar system, structured around months, weeks, and market days, carried significance far beyond practicality. According to him, it represented an alignment of human activity with natural order — a framework in which the human, spiritual, and natural realms existed not in tension, but in harmony.
# The State AIDS and STI Control Programme (SASCP) has paid an advocacy visit to the Executive Secretary/Chief Executive Officer of the Anambra State Health Insurance Agency (ASHIA), Dr. Ezeka Augustine, at the Agency’s office in Awka.
Speaking during the visit, the State AIDS Programme Coordinator (SAPC), Dr. Mbagwu Tonia Ogochukwu, expressed the desire of SASCP to sustain and strengthen its existing collaboration with ASHIA in the delivery of quality healthcare services to residents of Anambra State.
Dr. Mbagwu noted that ASHIA has remained a dependable partner in the implementation of health programmes across the State, especially in areas relating to HIV prevention, treatment, and support services. She expressed optimism that the partnership between both agencies would continue to grow stronger for the benefit of the people.
# The Provost of Nwafor Orizu College of Education, Nsugbe (NOCEN), Professor Victor Ifeanyi Obiora Ndirika, has unveiled his administration’s strategic vision for transforming the institution into a globally competitive centre of excellence in education.
Professor Ndirika disclosed this during his maiden interactive meeting with staff of the College held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, where discussions centred on institutional growth, staff welfare, capacity building, and academic development.
Speaking during the session, the Provost expressed appreciation to the Governor of Anambra State, Charles Chukwuma Soludo, for the opportunity to serve the institution.
To achieve this goal, Professor Ndirika outlined key priorities of his administration, including the transition of the College into a degree-awarding institution, curriculum review in line with global standards, staff development, infrastructure upgrade, ICT-driven learning, and strengthened research collaborations.
