Obi Flags Off Road Construction in Awka-Etiti, Inspects Erosion Control Works in Nnobi

The Chairman of Idemili South Local Government Area, Hon. Amaka Obi, has flagged off the construction of a new road project in Ejighinandu Village, Awka-Etiti, describing it as a major step towards improving infrastructure and boosting economic activities in the community.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony, which was attended by the Secretary to the Local Government; the Head of Department, Works; the President-General of Awka-Etiti, Councillors, Ward Executives and other Stakeholders, Obi commended Mr. Nnaemeka Olisakwe for partnering with the government through the Public-Private-Community Partnership (PPCP) initiative.

The Mayor noted that the collaboration reflects the importance of collective responsibility in addressing community challenges and delivering sustainable development projects.

According to Obi, the road project will improve access for farmers, facilitate the transportation of agricultural produce to markets and create greater economic opportunities for residents of Awka-Etiti and neighbouring communities.

“This project goes beyond constructing a road. It is about improving livelihoods, creating opportunities and connecting people to economic activities that will enhance their well-being,” Obi stated.

The Mayor emphasized that quality road infrastructure remains essential for both rural and urban development, as it promotes commerce, eases transportation challenges and attracts investment.

Obi also praised individuals, community leaders and stakeholders who have continued to support development efforts across Idemili South, describing the PPCP model as an effective strategy for accelerating grassroots development.

She explained that improved road networks would help reduce post-harvest losses, lower transportation costs for farmers and provide direct access to larger markets within and outside the local government area.

The council chairman assured residents that the project would be closely monitored to ensure compliance with approved standards and timely completion.

Reaffirming her administration’s commitment to people-oriented governance, Obi pledged to sustain partnerships with communities and development-minded individuals to deliver impactful infrastructure projects that would make Idemili South more accessible, prosperous and economically vibrant.

Residents who attended the event expressed optimism that the road project would improve transportation, stimulate local commerce, attract investments and enhance the quality of life in the area.

in a related development, Mayor Obi, alongside the Councillor representing Nnobi Ward 2 and the APGA mayoral candidate for Idemili South, inspected ongoing remedial works aimed at addressing the erosion menace in Nnobi.

The council chairman expressed satisfaction with the progress recorded so far, noting that the intervention is already yielding positive results, with visible improvements in erosion control and environmental protection within the affected communities.

Obi described environmental degradation as a serious threat to communities and reaffirmed her administration’s commitment to protecting lives, property and the environment for both present and future generations.

She assured residents that the local government would continue to support measures aimed at mitigating erosion and preserving the environment, while ensuring that ongoing projects achieve their intended objectives.
