The Diocese of Aguata, Anglican Communion, has called on the Federal Government to take immediate and decisive steps to tackle Nigeria’s growing insecurity, warning that the situation is threatening peaceful coexistence and national stability.
The appeal was contained in a seven-point communiqué issued at the conclusion of the Third Session of the Seventh Synod of the Diocese, held at St Andrew’s Parish, Ezira, in Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State.
The communiqué, jointly signed by the President of the Synod and Bishop of Aguata Diocese, Rt. Rev. Samuel Ezeofor, and the Clerical Synod Secretary, Rev. Canon Uzochukwu Muojekwu, expressed deep concern over the worsening security situation across the country.
According to the church leaders, urgent and practical measures are needed to curb violence, protect lives and property, and restore public confidence in Nigeria’s security institutions.
The Synod also condemned the persistent high level of corruption in the country, describing it as a major impediment to national development, good governance, and economic progress.
“The deepening state of insecurity in Nigeria is seriously affecting peaceful coexistence, while corruption remains a major obstacle to national progress,” the communiqué stated.
The church commended Bishop Ezeofor for his leadership and contributions to the growth of the Diocese through grassroots evangelism, infrastructural development, capital investments, and other transformative initiatives. It also prayed for God’s continued wisdom, strength, and protection upon him.
Participants further applauded the people of Ezira for successfully hosting the Synod and congratulated Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, on his re-election for a second term in office.
The Synod also acknowledged the establishment of the Agunechemba vigilante outfit by the Soludo administration as part of efforts to enhance security across Anambra State.
However, it urged the government to ensure effective supervision, proper orientation, and strict adherence to legal and professional standards by members of the security outfit.
While praising Governor Soludo’s developmental initiatives across the state, the church prayed for a peaceful and successful second tenure marked by greater progress and prosperity for the people of Anambra.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the Synod concluded with a renewed call for improved security, accountability, transparency, and responsible leadership at all levels of government, stressing that these remain essential pillars for national stability and sustainable development.
