The Governing Council of Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University has dismissed five staff members over allegations of gross misconduct, including sexual abuse, harassment, extortion, intimidation, and other ethical violations.
According to a statement issued by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Dr. Harrison Madubueze, the decision was reached during the 122nd meeting of the institution’s 8th Governing Council held on June 12, 2026.
Those dismissed include: Prof C. C. Nwabachili, immediate past Dean of the Faculty of Law, Prof. Chike Osegbue of the Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social Sciences, Dr. I. H. Iheukwumere and Mr. Emeka Nwabunnia, both from the Department of Microbiology, Faculty of Natural Sciences, Uli Campus, over allegations bordering on sexual abuse, harassment, intimidation, extortion, and related misconduct.
Mrs. Ifeoma Kakulu, who served as Examination Officer for the Faculty of Law at the Examinations Unit, Igbariam Campus at the time of the alleged offence, was also dismissed.
The Governing Council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining discipline, professionalism, and ethical standards within the institution, warning that actions capable of damaging the university’s reputation would attract severe sanctions.
The university stated that the disciplinary measures form part of ongoing efforts to protect students and staff, promote accountability, and uphold its vision of building a safe, transparent, and future-focused academic environment.
