The lawmaker representing Onitsha North one Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Barrister Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe, has condemned the alleged abuse of a young child and called for justice, protection, and long-term care for the victim.

Hon. Azikiwe made the call after visiting the child, who is currently receiving medical treatment following the reported abuse.
Expressing deep concern over the child’s condition, the lawmaker described the injuries as heartbreaking and unacceptable, stressing that no child should be subjected to such suffering.
She disclosed that the suspects connected to the case have been arrested and are currently in police custody.
According to her, steps have been taken to ensure the matter is thoroughly documented and pursued through the appropriate investigative and prosecutorial processes.
Azikiwe pledged to closely monitor the case to ensure that justice is served and that it is neither compromised nor informally settled.
She emphasized that the child deserves justice, protection, and sustained support, adding that Anambra State must send a strong message that violations against children will not be tolerated.
The lawmaker also urged parents, teachers, religious leaders, neighbours, and community members to speak up against child abuse, noting that silence often enables such crimes to continue.
She called on residents to keep the young boy in their prayers as he undergoes treatment and recovery, insisting that society must do more to protect vulnerable children.
“Enough is enough,” she stated. “Every child deserves safety, dignity, and a chance to grow without fear.”
“Today, I visited a young child who is currently receiving treatment after allegedly enduring unimaginable abuse at the hands of those who should have protected him.
“I have seen many difficult things in public service, but nothing prepared me for what I witnessed today. The extent of this child’s injuries broke my heart and stirred a righteous anger within me. No child deserves this. No child should know this kind of pain.
“The suspects are currently in police custody. I have directed that this matter be fully documented and escalated through the appropriate investigative and prosecutorial channels, and I will be actively monitoring the case to ensure it is not compromised, delayed, or settled informally.
“This child deserves justice, protection, and long-term care. Anything less is unacceptable.
“Anambra State must draw a clear line: children are not to be violated, and there will be consequences when they are.
“To every child in Anambra State: your life matters, your voice matters, and we will fight for your protection.
“I ask every parent, neighbour, teacher, faith leader, and community member to speak up. Child abuse thrives in silence. We must become a society that sees, reports, and protects.
“Please keep this little boy in your prayers as he fights to heal. Enough is enough.” Hon. Azikiwe stated
