Tunisia have appointed experienced French coach Hervé Renard as their new national team boss until the end of the 2026 World Cup, following the sacking of previous coach Lamouchi after a humiliating 5-1 loss to Sweden.
The Tunisian Football Federation announced the move on Monday, with federation president Moez Nassari confirming an agreement had been reached.
“The president of the Tunisian Football Federation, Moez Nassari, announced that an official agreement had been reached with French coach Hervé Renard for him to take charge of the national football team until the end of the 2026 World Cup,” the FA said on national television.
The 57-year-old Renard, who previously coached Saudi Arabia, is expected to join the squad immediately at their base in Mexico and lead his first training session on Tuesday ahead of their next Group F match against Japan on Sunday.
The swift change comes after Tunisia’s heavy opening defeat at the Estadio BBVA, which exposed defensive frailties and prompted urgent action to salvage their campaign in the expanded tournament.
Renard is known for his success with African teams, having previously won the Africa Cup of Nations with Zambia and Ivory Coast.
