A Nnewi-based native doctor, Ikechukwu JohnPaul Ezenagu, popularly known as “Mmuo Mmili Afuluanya,” has been granted bail in the sum of N50 million by an Anambra State High Court presided over by Justice Jude Obiora.
The court also imposed additional bail conditions, including the provision of one surety and the deposit of the title documents of the defendant’s residence.
The court ruled that the property would be forfeited should the defendant fail to comply with the bail terms or abscond during the trial.
Furthermore, Justice Obiora directed the defendant not to grant media interviews or make public statements relating to the case while the trial is ongoing.
Speaking with journalists after the court proceedings, one of the defence counsel, Barrister Kingsley Awuka, expressed satisfaction with the ruling, describing the court as fair and gracious in granting the bail application.
According to him, the conditions attached to the bail are within the capacity of the defendant to meet, adding that the defence team remains confident that justice will prevail.
The prosecution is being led by the Anambra State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Tobechukwu Nweke (SAN).
Ezenagu is facing charges bordering on alleged violations of provisions of the Anambra Homeland Security Law.
Angel Network News (ANN) reports that the matter was adjourned to 3rd July for further hearing
