The widow of late comic actor John Okafor, popularly known as Mr Ibu, has made an emotional appeal for public support, saying the family is struggling to pay rent, school fees and basic utilities following his death.
In a video interview published on Wednesday, the widow described the difficult living conditions the family has faced since the actor passed away in March 2024 at the age of 62.
“We fetch water from the well. Because I have not paid the house rent. And they have even cut my lights for two months now. No lights since. We have been like that. Every night we go to look for a place to charge our phones. And… It’s not easy,” she said.
One of the late actor’s daughters praised her mother’s efforts to keep the family together.
“I want to thank God for my mom. She tries everything she can to feed us, to pay our school fees, to make us happy,” the daughter said.
The widow added that the children risk dropping out of school due to unpaid fees. “Right now, they can’t go to school again. I can even show you the message the school sent me today,” she stated.
Content creator King Mitchy, who conducted the interview, said assistance is being sought to help settle rent, school fees and restore electricity to the home.
