Babcock University has rejected a purported honorary certificate circulating online that claims comedian and content creator Carter Efe graduated with a “First Class Upper” distinction, describing the document as fraudulent.
In a public notice issued on Monday, university management distanced itself from the document, which was allegedly issued by a “Babcock University Biochemistry Computer Club” to Oderhohwo Joseph Efe.
The institution stated that it “does not issue honorary certificates in recognition of undergraduate academic performance and does not recognize any academic classification known as ‘First Class Upper.’” The official classification is “First Class Honours,” awarded only through degree certificates and transcripts issued by the Office of the Registrar.
Babcock warned employers, educational bodies, professional organisations and the public to disregard any such documents issued outside its established academic processes.
The university further cautioned that anyone involved in producing, circulating or using forged academic documents risks investigation and prosecution under laws relating to forgery and fraud. It urged verification of credentials directly through its Registrar’s office.
The statement comes after Efe, known for his comedic content, shared what appeared to be the certificate amid online discussions about educational qualifications. The document has since sparked widespread attention on social media.
