# Governor Chukwuma Soludo has inspected the ongoing construction of the Coordinated Wholesale Centre (CWC) in Oba, describing the project as a transformative initiative for pharmaceutical distribution, healthcare delivery, and economic development.
During the inspection, Governor Soludo assessed the progress of work, interacted with project supervisors, and reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to delivering world-class pharmaceutical infrastructure that will revolutionise medicine distribution in Anambra State and beyond.
The governor stated that the centre would play a crucial role in combating the circulation of counterfeit, adulterated, and substandard medicines through centralised distribution, strengthened regulatory oversight, and strict compliance with industry standards. He noted that these measures would safeguard public health and restore confidence in Nigeria’s pharmaceutical supply chain.
Prof. Soludo described the Coordinated Wholesale Centre as a landmark investment that will stimulate economic growth, generate employment opportunities, enhance healthcare delivery, and reinforce Anambra State’s position as Africa’s leading pharmaceutical and medical trade hub.
# Anambra State Commissioner for Education, Dr. Ekene Ogugua, has assured secondary school principals across the state of the government’s full support to enable them to discharge their responsibilities effectively.
Dr. Ogugua gave the assurance during an interactive session with principals and education directors held at the ASUBEB Utility Hall in Awka. He said the meeting was organised to acquaint himself with school administrators and outline the Soludo administration’s vision of building a first-class education system in Nigeria.
The Commissioner reaffirmed Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s commitment to improving education and equipping students with the skills needed to thrive in the 21st century. He also reiterated the importance of the state’s free education policy, warning principals against any actions that could undermine its implementation, while urging them to prioritise the safety of students and school property.
In her remarks, the Chairman of the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board (ASUBEB), Dr. Justina Anyadiegwu, congratulated Dr. Ogugua on his appointment and pledged the Board’s support towards achieving the government’s education objectives.
Also speaking, the Secretary of the Post Primary Schools Service Commission (PPSSC), Mrs. Benedine Anagor, described principals as critical drivers of government policies and assured the Commissioner of their cooperation.
During the interactive session, several principals identified major challenges facing their schools, including insecurity, lack of perimeter fencing, shortage of teachers, inadequate classrooms, non-functional computer systems, and the need for additional school buses.
Responding, Dr. Ogugua assured them that their concerns would be presented to Governor Soludo, expressing confidence in the administration’s commitment to addressing the challenges and further strengthening the state’s education sector.
# Mass Communication Department, Nnamdi Azikiwe University has officially been upgraded to Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, marking a significant milestone in the institution’s pursuit of academic excellence and specialized professional training in the communication discipline.
The newly established Faculty comprises five departments: Advertising, Broadcasting, Development Communication Studies, Journalism and Media Studies, and Mass Communication.
Announcing the development, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Prof. Allen Nnanwuba Adum, who was full of excitement expressed gratitude to members of the University community and other stakeholders who supported the process that culminated in the Faculty’s establishment.
The upgrade is expected to strengthen teaching, research, innovation, and professional practice in communication and media studies while providing broader opportunities for academic growth and specialization.
The establishment of the Faculty reflects the University’s continued commitment to expanding its academic programmes and aligning with evolving global trends in communication, media, and related disciplines.
# The National Boundary Commission has assured that it will expedite action to resolve the Anambra-Abia interstate boundary dispute, which has lingered for over twenty years.
Speaking during a joint meeting on the Anambra-Abia interstate boundary dispute in Awka, the Director-General of the National Boundary Commission, Mr. Adamu Adaji, disclosed that both states had reached agreement on fifteen kilometres of the twenty-three-kilometre boundary in dispute, and said that efforts are ongoing to resolve the outstanding issues on the remaining eight kilometres as soon as possible, while urging both states to embrace peace, as peaceful coexistence would promote development in the affected communities.
Mr. Adaji regretted that the dispute had persisted for such a long time and assured that the commission would examine all relevant documents relating to the disputed boundary with a view to reaching a lasting resolution.
In their separate remarks, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State and Chairman of the Anambra State Boundary Committee, Dr. Onyekachukwu Ibezim, represented by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Boundary Matters, Mr. Ekenechukwu Okoye, and the Deputy Governor of Abia State and Chairman of the Abia State Boundary Committee, Engineer Ikechukwu Emetu, represented by the state’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Barrister Chijioke Nwankwo, commended the National Boundary Commission for its commitment to resolving the dispute and reaffirmed the readiness of both states to cooperate in restoring lasting peace to the affected areas.
# Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Professor Charles Ofoegbu, has appealed to public-spirited individuals and lovers of education to sponsor academic activities geared towards exposing students to practical knowledge and skills acquisition in their chosen disciplines.
Professor Ofoegbu made the call while playing host to the President of the Society of Petroleum Engineering Students (SPES), Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Comrade Mmesoma Ikegwonu, who, in the company of the Director of Socials, Comrade Michael Ikenga, paid him a visit in his office at the Jerome Udoji State Secretariat, Awka.
The commissioner, who believes strongly in catching them young, encouraged the students to be intentional in all their dealings and, while handing them over to the Anambra State Petroleum and Energy Resources Company, advised them to be good listeners, remain level-headed, and aspire to be mentored.
Earlier, Comrade Ikegwonu had intimated the commissioner about their forthcoming programme, targeted at acquainting newly admitted students with the ethics, values, and expectations of the profession.
He, however, listed poorly equipped laboratories, lack of government funding, and limited internship opportunities for students as their major constraints.
# The Nnewi North Decongestion Unit has intensified efforts to improve traffic management with the installation of new road signs at strategic junctions across the Local Government Area, aimed at curbing traffic violations, enhancing road safety.
The exercise, focused on locations prone to one-way traffic violations, including Nwanyi Imo Junction, CPS Junction and Uru Junction.
Speaking during the installation, the Unit Commander, Comrade Kizito, said the initiative forms part of the unit’s ongoing campaign to promote traffic discipline, reduce road accidents and restore order on roads within Nnewi North.
He urged motorists, tricycle operators and commercial motorcycle riders to obey the newly installed traffic signs, stressing that compliance is essential to ensuring the safety of all road users.
Comrade Kizito disclosed that officers of the decongestion unit have been strategically deployed to monitor compliance and enforce traffic regulations at the affected locations and other critical areas within the local government.
He reaffirmed the unit’s commitment to maintaining free-flowing traffic, reducing congestion and creating a safer, more orderly road network for residents, commuters and visitors to Nnewi North.
Residents and road users were encouraged to cooperate with traffic officers and comply with all traffic regulations to support the government’s efforts at improving road safety and public order.
# The Anambra State Vehicle Inspection Service, VIS, has organised a mass transit training in Awka, to strengthen officers’ practical driving abilities, inspection competence, professionalism, and effective service delivery across the state.
The training, held at the Computerised Test Centre, Awka, equipped participants with practical knowledge and skills required for efficient vehicle inspection, roadworthiness assessment, traffic management, and safer road transportation services statewide.
Resource person, Engr. Daniel Eze, guided participants through structured practical driving exercises, comprehensive vehicle inspection procedures, defensive driving techniques, traffic law enforcement practices, and interactive feedback sessions throughout the programme successfully.
Engr. Eze explained that the exercise aimed at improving officers’ driving competence while enhancing their technical capacity to conduct accurate vehicle inspections and enforce roadworthiness standards professionally across Anambra State.
He further stressed that the programme reinforced participants’ understanding of traffic regulations, road safety principles, discipline, ethical conduct, and professionalism necessary for effective public service and improved transportation administration statewide.
Participants actively engaged in practical demonstrations and interactive sessions designed to sharpen their operational skills, improve confidence, encourage teamwork, and strengthen their commitment towards safer roads and quality public service.
# The Anambra State Head of Civil Service, Ngozi Anuli Iwouno has intensified efforts to safeguard the integrity of retirement benefits processing by warning retiring officers against patronizing middlemen and unauthorized agents promising to fast-track their entitlements.
In a circular issued from the Office of the Head of Service, Iwouno expressed concern over increasing reports of fraudulent individuals exploiting intending retirees while also highlighting delays caused by incomplete retirement documentation.
She directed all officers due for retirement to ensure their files contain all required documents, including bank statements covering the last three months before retirement and functional telephone numbers for easy communication.
The Head of Civil Service advised intending retirees to carefully verify that all necessary documents have been submitted before forwarding their retirement files to the appropriate authorities for processing.
Iwouno stressed that retirement benefits processing is an official government responsibility and does not require payment of money, gratification or inducement to any staff, agent or intermediary.

# ‌‎The Supervisory Permanent Secretary of the Anambra State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Nkiru Mokwe, has officially assumed duty pledging to work closely with the ministry’s leadership and staff to advance its mandate.

‎On arrival, Mrs. Mokwe was received by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, who personally conducted her on a tour of the ministry’s offices and introduced her to members of staff.

‎Mrs. Mokwe, who also serves as the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Lands, will oversee the affairs of the Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Welfare pending the appointment of a substantive Permanent Secretary.

‎In her welcome address, Hon. Onyekesi assured the Supervisory Permanent Secretary of the commitment, cooperation and dedication of the ministry’s workforce, expressing confidence that the cordial working environment would make her assignment productive and fulfilling.
