FRSC Urges Anambra Motorists To Adopt Safety Precautions During Rainfall

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has urged motorists to exercise greater caution and strictly observe road safety measures as the rainy season intensifies and heavier rainfall is expected across the country.

The Anambra State Sector Commander, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhanuo, said driving during rainfall poses significant risks due to poor visibility, slippery road surfaces, and other hazardous conditions that could lead to road traffic crashes if adequate precautions are not taken.

She advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are roadworthy before embarking on any journey. According to her, drivers should clean their vehicle windows and windshields thoroughly, both inside and outside, and inspect essential safety components, including headlights, brake lights, tail lights, turn signals, windscreen wipers, and wiper blades, to ensure they are functioning properly.

Corps Commander Asekhanuo further stressed that vehicle lights should always be switched on whenever it rains, regardless of whether it is daytime or nighttime, to improve visibility for all road users.

She also urged motorists to reduce speed, maintain a safe following distance, and apply what she described as the “common sense speed limit” based on prevailing weather and road conditions.

Highlighting the importance of tyre safety, the Sector Commander noted that tyres are the only points of contact between a vehicle and the road. She therefore advised drivers to ensure their tyres have adequate tread depth and proper traction to maintain a firm grip on wet road surfaces.

To strengthen compliance with the safety measures, Asekhanuo directed all Unit Commanders across Anambra State to intensify traffic calming operations, sustain public enlightenment campaigns, and pay particular attention to the condition of vehicle windscreen wipers during routine patrols and enforcement activities throughout the rainy season.

She reaffirmed the FRSC’s commitment to reducing road traffic crashes and called on all road users to cooperate with the Corps by driving responsibly and obeying traffic regulations.

“Drive to Stay Alive,” she emphasized.
