The Anambra State Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, has reaffirmed the commitment of the state government to safeguarding lives and property.
Dr. Mefor while speaking during a public awareness campaign against terrorism tagged,“ Unite Against Terror,” organised by the Department of State Services ( DSS) in collaboration with other security agencies and stakeholders in Anambra, declared that peace and security remain central to Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s agenda for the state.
The Commissioner while addressing the crowd at the Awka South Local Government Area Headquarters, Eke Awka Roundabout and the Light House Tower, respectively, during the walk, described the exercise as a symbolic demonstration of the people’s resolve to reject terrorism in all forms.
“We are here for a very important and symbolic demonstration of unity against terror in Nigeria, in Anambra. We have to unite against terror in all its ramifications,” he said.
Dr. Mefor defined terrorism as the use of violence to achieve any aim, especially when targeted at government and citizens, warning that nobody should disguise terror to mean any other thing, including freedom fighting.
“We’ve seen terror activities in Anambra and the entire Nigeria, particularly in the South East. They want the youths to believe that their activities are targeted at liberation. You don’t liberate us by killing us. Those who are killing us and calling themselves liberators are lying because that’s not freedom fighting. We must unite against terror, just like other states across the country are doing, and we must be in the vanguard,” he said.
He noted that Anambra was joining other states that had already held similar campaigns to ensure that all 36 states and the FCT speak with one voice against terrorism, stressing that peace is the foundation for development and that the Soludo administration will not compromise on security.
“Without peace there will be no development. And the government of Anambra State is committed to peace, and development, and so shall it be,” he affirmed.

participants in the solidarity walk from Amawbia to the Light House Tower included personnel of security agencies, heads of federal establishments, Keke and bus drivers’ unions, market leaders, youth groups and other critical stakeholders in the state.
