Cameroon advanced to the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations after defeating hosts Morocco 3-1 on penalties following a goalless semi-final on Wednesday.
The Indomitable Lionesses held firm through 120 minutes at the Moulay El Hassan Stadium before prevailing in the shootout.
Morocco were awarded a penalty in the 118th minute of extra time, but Fatima Tagnaout failed to convert, leaving the score at 0-0.
In the shootout, Marie Ngah, Rose Bella and Myriam Nyadjou scored for Cameroon. Hanane Aït El Haj converted Morocco’s only successful kick, while Kenza Chapelle, Meryem Atiq and Sakina Ouzraoui all missed.
The result ends Morocco’s hopes of reaching a third consecutive WAFCON final and claiming a first continental title on home soil.
Cameroon, who had previously lost three consecutive WAFCON penalty shootouts, secured their fourth appearance in the final. They had earlier eliminated defending champions Nigeria in the quarter-finals.
The Indomitable Lionesses will face Malawi in Sunday’s final.
