Father to Davido and elder brother of Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has attributed the family’s success in the recent governorship election to divine intervention rather than financial superiority, dismissing claims that money determined the outcome.
Dr. Adedeji Adeleke made the remarks in a video circulating on social media, recorded at a celebration of his brother’s re-election victory over former governor Gboyega Oyetola.
“The only reason why we defeated Oyetola is not because we are bigger, or we spend more money than him,” he said.
Adeleke alleged that the opposition had poured significant resources into the contest. “On election, they did not spend any money. They spent 60 billion as we heard. Some places they bought votes for as high as 50,000 Naira for one single vote,” he stated.
He described how, upon learning of the scale of the reported spending on election day, he retreated to pray. “On the day of the election, when I heard the kind of money they were spending, I went back to my little corner in my room and I knelt down and I prayed to God. I said, God Almighty, please let people collect their money, but let them still vote for Ademola Adeleke.”
Adeleke added that he had maintained a consistent prayer routine before the poll, regularly reading passages from the Book of Isaiah, chapter 41, which he said formed part of his daily spiritual practice.
The comments come amid ongoing discussion of the Osun election results, in which Ademola Adeleke secured a fresh term. Independent observers and electoral officials have separately addressed claims of irregularities, though Adeleke’s remarks focused solely on the role of faith in the outcome.
