Liga F: Spain women’s league faces broadcast blackout as rights go unsold

Spain’s top women’s football league risks starting its new season without any television coverage after no broadcaster agreed to purchase the media rights, according to reports.

Streaming service DAZN, which had paid 7 million euros annually for the rights, opted not to renew the deal, judging it no longer commercially viable.

An auction process followed. Initial bids failed to exceed 5 million euros. The asking price was later reduced to 2 million euros, yet two weeks before the season’s scheduled start, no television network has submitted an offer.

The situation highlights the economic challenges facing women’s football in Spain. Efforts to replicate the commercial model of the men’s game have been hampered by limited audience reach and insufficient advertising revenue, leaving the numbers short of sustainability.

As a result, players could begin the championship without a single match being broadcast on television or major streaming platforms.
