Ajayi Scores As Hull City stun Man United 2-0 in Premier League Opener

Newly promoted Hull City marked their return to the Premier League with a shock 2-0 victory over Manchester United at the MKM Stadium on Saturday.

Semi Ajayi opened the scoring in the 17th minute, turning home a rebound after goalkeeper Senne Lammens parried an effort from a corner. Nobel Mendy doubled the lead seven minutes before half-time, powering home a header from a Regan Slater free-kick.

United, managed by Michael Carrick, struggled to create clear chances and could not recover despite second-half substitutions that included Marcus Rashford’s first competitive appearance for the club in more than 600 days.

Hull captain Lewie Coyle praised his side’s resilience after the match.

“This team’s got resilience,” he said. “We know what we’re doing when we’re in that sort of low block. The gaffer’s got us well drilled… But it’s a collective thing.”

The result leaves Hull high in the early table while United sit near the bottom after their opening fixture. It was Hull’s first league win over United since 1974.
