Dancer Iweh Odinaka, known as Poco Lee, is being held on remand in the United Kingdom and is scheduled to appear in a London court next month over an alleged assault.
Benjamin Kuti, founder of a community group for Nigerians in the UK and known as the Oluomo of Derby, confirmed the development on Monday.
“I can confirm that the reports are true. Poco Lee is currently on remand in a UK prison. His next court date is scheduled for the second week of September, when he is expected to have a plea hearing,” Kuti said.
He stated that the hearing at Snaresbrook Crown Court is set for September 15 at 10 a.m., at which the accused would typically enter a guilty or not-guilty plea.
Kuti said he planned to attend the proceedings to support members of the Nigerian community.
“It is important that we allow the legal process to take its course. Everyone is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” he added.
Reports of Poco Lee’s detention first circulated online around August 19. Details of the alleged complainant and specific circumstances of the offence have not been publicly disclosed, and independent confirmation from UK authorities was not immediately available.
