# Anambra State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike, on behalf of the state government and the Ministry of Health received an ambulance donated by Enugwu Ukwu People Renaissance Association (EPRA).
The Group donated donated the ambulance to General Hospital Enugwu Ukwu in Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State to improve emergency medical services and healthcare delivery in the community.
Dr Obidike while receiving the ambulance,
commended EPRA for the donation, describing it as an important contribution to the development of healthcare services in the state. He noted that the ambulance would help the hospital respond faster to emergencies, support patient referrals and ensure that patients who need urgent care are moved to the right facility on time.
The Commissioner also praised the people of Enugwu Ukwu for supporting healthcare development and called on other communities and organisations to support government efforts in improving healthcare services.
He maintained that Anambra State government could not do everything alone, stressing that communities have an important role to play in supporting public services, especially healthcare.
Obidike assured that the ambulance would be properly used for the benefit of patients in Enugwu Ukwu and neighbouring communities.
The leader and representative of the association, Dr. Vincent Okeke, in his speech, stated that the organisation has members across Nigeria and in the diaspora, including the United States and the United Kingdom. He explained that the idea to provide the ambulance came after members of the association visited the community and met with the management of General Hospital Enugwu Ukwu to understand the challenges facing the hospital.
Dr Okeke said the Chief Medical Director identified the need for an ambulance, after which the association decided to support the hospital by mobilising resources to provide one.
He said the donation was part of EPRA’s wider plan to support projects that have a direct impact on the lives of the people. He added that Enugwu Ukwu had a strong history of community development, especially in education and infrastructure, and that healthcare should also receive such support.
Dr Okeke said communities should work with government to support public facilities, adding, “Since this hospital is located in our community and serves our people, we felt it was important for us to contribute.” He noted that members of the community were happy with the project, adding that the ambulance was brought from Lagos a few days before the handover.
He expressed confidence that the ambulance would help save lives by improving emergency response. He said every minute matters during an emergency and that the vehicle would help patients who need urgent transportation.
Dr Okeke described the donation as EPRA’s contribution to the development of Enugwu Ukwu and the improvement of healthcare services in the community, while the gesture further shows the importance of community support in strengthening healthcare delivery in Anambra State.
# The lawmaker representing Onitsha North one constituency in Anambra state House of Assembly, Barrister. Mimi Ifeoma Azikiwe has decried the nonchalant attitude of people in Anambra towards education compared to empowerment that involves money.
The lawmaker narrated how she posted on her on status that she can help people in her constituency with admissions into Unizik or Chukwuemeke Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU) but unfortunately she has recieved only a few applications.
“Sometimes I wonder about our education. I have consistently posted on my status and put it out there that I would help with admissions in UniZik and COOU within my constituency for weeks now, and still have only a few applications”
She further stated that people react and apply quickly and massively once it has to with empowerment/money. According to her “Once you put out EMPOWERMENT now, even if it is just 30k, you will see wonders”
In a statement signed by the Director of Information and Public Relations of the University, Comrade Aloysius Attah, the panel, chaired by the Provost of the College of Postgraduate Studies, Prof. Emmanuel Obidimma, in its preliminary report submitted to the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Bond Anyaehie, indicted Prof. Odinye for contravening Section 5.8.3 of the university’s General and Academic Regulations by failing to record and submit a case of examination misconduct involving a student, Chikamso Favour Okechukwu, on the prescribed Examination Misconduct Report Form.
The panel also found that the lecturer returned to the student on the same day an offending mobile phone recovered during the examination, contrary to Section 5.8.1(iv) of the General and Academic Regulations.
Consequently, the Vice Chancellor directed that Chikamso Favour Okechukwu be referred to the Students’ Examination Misconduct Committee for appropriate consideration.
The statement said the school management has also extended the duration of the Special Investigative Panel by another two weeks to enable it complete its assignment and address the remaining three of its five terms of reference.
The outstanding issues include; determining whether there was sexual harassment, identifying the persons involved in the alleged assault on Prof. Odinye, and establishing whether there was any incident of kidnapping in the matter.
The panel is expected to submit its final findings and recommendations to the Vice Chancellor at the end of the extended period.
The university said a final verdict, including possible criminal prosecution, may follow from the outcome of the investigation.
# Chief Ebuka Onunkwo, the top contender for the Anambra South Senatorial seat on the platform of the National Democratic Coalition (NDC), joined members of the Catholic Women Organisation (CWO) of Awgbu Deanery at their August general meeting held at All Saints Catholic Church, Awgbu, in Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.
Chief Onunkwo, who was accompanied by the House of Representatives candidate of the NDC for Orumba North and South, Hon Okwudili Ezenwankwo, members of his campaign team and close aides, arrived at the venue to show solidarity with the women and encourage them in their service to the church and the larger community.
Speaking briefly, Chief Onunkwo praised the CWO members for their dedication and continuous support for community development. He said the role of women in building strong families and peaceful communities cannot be overemphasised.
# The Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA) is strengthening its collaboration with the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Anambra State Directorate, to expand HIV awareness, prevention education and community mobilisation across the state.
The partnership was explored during a courtesy visit by the NOA Anambra State leadership, led by the State Director, Barrister Ifeoma Chijioke to the Executive Director of ANSACA, Dr. Nkem Okeke, at the agency’s office.
Welcoming the delegation, Dr. Okeke emphasised the importance of effective public enlightenment in reducing new HIV infections, encouraging regular testing and treatment, addressing stigma and discrimination against people living with HIV.
He noted that NOA’s extensive grassroots network could provide a valuable channel for delivering accurate and practical HIV information to communities, markets, schools, workplaces, religious institutions and other groups across the state.
Dr. Okeke said the proposed collaboration is consistent with the Soludo administration’s focus on partnerships, preventive healthcare and community driven development, as well as ANSACA’s 2026–2028 State Strategic Transformation and Sustainability Plan.
In her address, Barr. Chijioke expressed the agency’s readiness to partner with ANSACA in strengthening sustained public education and behavioural change communication on HIV and other public health priorities.
Both agencies reaffirmed their commitment to combining their respective strengths and grassroots structures to build a better-informed, healthier and more supportive Anambra State, where people can access accurate HIV information and services without fear of stigma or discrimination.
# Honourable Justice Peace Otti of the Anambra State High Court 2, sitting in Awka, has ordered the Anambra State Government through its Counsel, PN Ikwueto SAN to make available to the counsel of His Imperial Majesty Obi Dr. Austin Ndigwe the White paper and record of proceedings of the Panel Set up by Governor Soludo to investigate Awka Kingship Tussle.
The judicial order followed the state government’s blatant refusal to release the certified true copy (CTC) of the proceedings and report of the Panel of Enquiry set up by Prof. Chukwuma Soludo to adjudicate on the highly contentious Awka Traditional Rulership Stool to His Imperial Majesty, Obi Dr. Austin Chukwuezugo Ndigwe (Ezeuzu III) through his legal counsel.
In a firm ruling, the presiding judge issued a fresh, binding order directing the Anambra State Government to produce within seven days the CTC of the panel’s proceedings and report, and make it available to the legal team representing Obi Ndigwe.
The courtroom drama unfolded when Alex Ejesieme, SAN, leading counsel to His Imperial Majesty Obi Ndigwe, brought an application before the court. Ejesieme informed the judge that the Soludo-led government had willfully ignored and failed to comply with a similar order made back in May 2026, which had explicitly directed them to produce the vital documents.
Despite repeated and formal applications made by Ejesieme, SAN, since May 2026, Soludo’s government had frustratingly failed to produce the CTC of the Panel of Enquiry that sat over the Ezeuzu Stool of Awka, prompting the court’s wrath on Tuesday.
Following exhaustive submissions from both parties, Justice Otti reinforced the fresh order, directing the government to immediately make the requested documents available. The matter has subsequently been adjourned to Tuesday, 29th September 2026, for further hearing.
# The Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP. Nnanna Oji Ama, hosted leaders of the 21 Local Government Areas of the Arewa Community as part of the Command’s ongoing efforts to strengthen all-inclusive policing and deepen collaboration with communities across the State.
The engagement provided an opportunity for meaningful interaction on security concerns, community policing and practical measures to enhance the safety of lives and property.
The Commissioner reiterated that effective policing cannot be achieved by the Police alone, but requires the collective efforts and support of community leaders, residents and other critical stakeholders.
CP Nnanna emphasized the importance of timely and credible information sharing, community support and mutual trust in preventing and tackling crime. He encouraged the Arewa leaders to remain committed partners in the Command’s security initiatives and to continue sensitizing their members on the importance of supporting lawful security operations and promptly providing useful information to the Police.
The Commissioner also stressed the need for communities to maintain peaceful relations with one another and to work closely with the Police in addressing emerging security concerns before they escalate.
The Police boss assured the delegation that the Command remains committed to maintaining an open-door policy and strengthening partnerships with all communities, irrespective of ethnic, religious or social backgrounds.
In his response, the Chairman of Arewa Community in Anambra State and National Deputy Director-General of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), Gidado Siddiki Sarki, appreciated the Commissioner of Police and the leadership of the Command for their accessibility, openness and commitment to community policing.
Sarki pledged the continued support and cooperation of the Arewa Community with the Police and other security agencies towards maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and promoting harmonious coexistence across the State.
# Newly appointed deputy diaspora coordinator Obi/Kwankwaso(OK) movement in Canada, Dr Kenechukwu Ojukwu has reacted to the press statement by Anambra’s SSG Mrs Chiamaka Nnake concerning Anambra involvement in a fake agency.
Dr Kenechukwu laments that Anambra’s involvement in this fake agency allegations, is a proof that Governor Soludo led administration does not properly scrutinize things that look like “progressives are working together” before diving in.
“The SSG was found in a cross fire of being nominated into a fake agency.This shows that there’s no in-depth analysis of anything before they dive in, simply because it kinda looks like progressives are working together”
He maintained that the SSG, kinda gave her master(Prof Chukwuma Soludo)out to protect herself. Dr Kenechukwu posits that Mrs Chiamaka Nnake ought to have told Ndi Anambra how much went to and fro in the fake agency.
“The SSG highlighted approval has been secured to host an event of the fake agency in this state we live in, with all these solution and silicon valley tech this and that, they were deceived to play a part in fake agency ?”
“The SSG failed to tell us how much has gone into this fake agency projects as approved from tax payers money, let’s understand how our money is being used to sponsor fake things.”
Dr Kenechukwu criticized the Anambra SSG for failing to condemn the fake agency and give federal government feedback on this fake agency endemic situation we now face.
He warned that Anambra state government should be very careful when pursuing the “progressives are working together” and also uphold the tenets of Democracy.
“This should serve a lesson that an opposition party, APGA, should stop shouting progressives are working together, but uphold the tenets of democracy, by holding the party in power with regular constructive feedback for better governance”
# The Commissioner for Environment, Dr. Clem Aguiyi, has called for stronger collaboration between the Anambra State Markets Amalgamated Traders Association (ASMATA) and other stakeholders to improve environmental enforcement and sanitation across markets in the state.
Aguiyi made the call during a stakeholders’ meeting held at the ASMATA Secretariat in Odakpu, Onitsha.
The commissioner stressed that effective environmental protection required collective responsibility, urging traders, market leaders, youths and communities to take greater ownership of environmental cleanliness and sustainability.
He identified proper waste disposal, functional drainage systems, regular sanitation, noise pollution control and consistent environmental monitoring as key areas requiring sustained attention across the markets.
Dr. Aguiyi also directed that environmental enforcement must be carried out professionally, transparently and with discipline, while adhering strictly to due process. He emphasised the need for clear reporting and communication channels to ensure effective implementation.
The commissioner further urged ASMATA youths to become more actively involved in environmental sensitisation, sanitation campaigns and the reporting of environmental violations within their respective markets.
He called on all stakeholders to support the Ministry’s efforts to promote a cleaner and healthier Anambra, while inviting ASMATA leadership, the Makeway Team and the youths to join the state in celebrating Anambra at 35 on Aug. 27.
Responding, the stakeholders pledged to strengthen their cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the environmental agenda of the Soludo Administration.
Discussions at the meeting focused on the proposed Environmental Enforcement Taskforce, including its structure and responsibilities, as well as ways to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry of Environment and market leadership.
The meeting was attended by the ASMATA President-General and other members of the association’s leadership, youths, members of the Makeway Team, prospective Environmental Enforcement Taskforce members and other stakeholders.
# The Speaker of Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Somtochukwu Udeze has enjoined religious bodies in the country to coexist peacefully despite their religious differences, which he said, are not strong enough to divide them since all religious groups believe in God as the creator of heaven and earth and everything therein.
Felicitating Muslims as they celebrate this year’s Eid-El-Maulud, in a press release, Rt. Hon. Udeze reminded them that the peace, unity and development of the country supercede religious affinity, inclinations and interests, adding that without a conducive socio-political and economic environment, different religions in the country will find it difficult to thrive.
The Speaker who called on Muslims to use the occasion of the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Mohammed to renew their spirit of love, almsgiving, religious tolerance and great commission to corporate living, charged them to uphold those things that will promote Interreligious tolerance in the country.
Rt. Hon. Udeze commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo for accommodating the Muslim Community in the State, especially for creating an enabling environment for them to operate and even earn their living, while urging them to reciprocate the Governor’s gesture by remaining peaceful and supportive of the government at all times.
He prayed Muslim Leaders to preach oneness and brotherhood to their members for the peace and progress of the country.
# The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University (UNIZIK), Awka, has approved the suspension of a lecturer in the Department of Chinese Studies, Prof. Ifeanyi Sunny Odinye, for three months with half salary.
