# The Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, has commissioned newly completed infrastructure projects at the RS5.36 Oraifite Unit Command as part of her third quarterly visit to the Unit in 2026.
The commissioned projects include a new entrance security gate, four solar-powered street lights, and a mini connecting gate, all aimed at improving the security, visibility, functionality, and overall outlook of the Unit Command.
High Chief Chudi Ufondu donated the newly constructed entrance security gate, while Chief Donatus Ndukwe donated four solar-powered street lights.
The Unit Commander, CRC Ogechukwu P. Nwolisa, sponsored the mini connecting gate.
In her welcome address, the Unit Commander expressed appreciation to the Sector Commander, invited dignitaries, sister security agencies, stakeholders, and members of the host community for their continued support towards the development of the Unit Command.
She particularly commended Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno for her tremendous moral and financial support towards improving the physical outlook and general welfare of the Command, including the recent repainting of the Command’s hall.
The Unit Commander described the new entrance security gate as a significant milestone, noting that it was the first major entrance gate provided for the Command since its establishment in 2013. She expressed profound gratitude to High Chief Chudi Ufondu for the generous gesture.
She also appreciated Chief Donatus Ndukwe for the donation of the four solar street lights, noting that the lighting infrastructure would enhance visibility and improve the security of the Command’s premises and assets, particularly at night.
While commissioning the projects, the Sector Commander commended the Unit Commander for her transformational leadership, dedication and commitment to improving the standard of the Oraifite Unit Command within a relatively short period.
Corps Commander Asekhauno also expressed appreciation to the project sponsors for their generosity and commitment to supporting the development of the FRSC. She stressed that such gestures demonstrate the importance of strategic partnerships and community synergy in advancing road safety.
The Sector Commander called on other stakeholders and members of the Oraifite community to emulate the donors by supporting FRSC programmes and initiatives aimed at improving road safety and contributing to the achievement of the Corps’ strategic objectives.
She further emphasized that effective road safety management is a collective responsibility, requiring the cooperation of government agencies, traditional institutions, community leaders, security agencies, religious organisations, youth groups and other relevant stakeholders.
The ceremony was attended by the Representative of His Royal Highness, Igwe Dr. Dan Udoji (Anumanu Oraifite), Chief Emmanuel Ubajiaka; representatives of the Nigeria Police Force; Agunechemba Security Outfit (Udogachi); Rev. Fr. Anthony Nwachukwu, Parish Priest of St. John Catholic Church, Oraifite; FRSC Special Marshals; representatives of the Oraifite youth leadership, and other stakeholders.
The guests, alongside the Sector Commander, joined the Unit Commander and her officers for the formal commissioning of the projects.
In recognition of their contributions and support to the development of the Unit Command, awards of recognition were presented to the project donors and other deserving stakeholders as a gesture of appreciation and encouragement for continued partnership.

They pledged their continued support and partnership with the Corps towards protecting lives and property and promoting safer roads within the community.

# The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, NSCDC Anambra State Command, has concluded plans to deploy adequate security operatives to the First Niger Bridge and its surrounding areas ahead of the emergency maintenance works on the bridge from Monday, September 7, 2026 till Monday, September 21, 2026.
The State Commandant, Commandant Maku Olatunde, disclosed this on Sunday, 6th September 2026, while reviewing the operational plans for the exercise at the State Command Headquarters, Awka.
According to the State Commandant, the temporary closure of the Niger Bridge for rehabilitation is a strategic federal project aimed at safeguarding lives and restoring a safe, smooth and durable riding surface for interstate connectivity.
In line with the Corps’ core mandate of protecting Critical National, State and Local Government Assets and Infrastructure, the Command has deployed tactical and regular personnel to the site and adjoining areas.
“Consistent with our statutory responsibility, we have mobilized armed and unarmed officers to provide 24-hour security for the engineers, equipment, and the bridge infrastructure throughout the repair period. We are also working closely with other security agencies to ensure a hitch-free operation,” he stated.
Commandant Maku further noted that traffic diversion routes have been mapped out in conjunction with the Federal Ministry of Works and sister agencies to minimize hardship for road users. Motorists are advised to use the Second Niger Bridge route through Obosi towards Asaba, Delta State, throughout the closure period.
He appealed to motorists and commuters to cooperate with security personnel and traffic officials, obey all diversion signs, and avoid acts that could undermine public order around the project site.
“We urge residents and road users to remain patient and law-abiding. Anyone found vandalizing government property or obstructing the contractor handling the project, will be arrested and prosecuted accordingly,” he warned.
# The Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Anambra State, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has charged women across the state to take seriously their responsibilities in building strong families, nurturing children and strengthening communities.
Mrs. Onyekesi gave the charge at the Golden Penny August Meeting Festival for Anambra Women held on Saturday at the Emmaus House Complex, Arthur Eze Avenue, Awka.
The event, organised in partnership with Golden Penny Foods, brought together women to celebrate the traditional August Meeting season through cultural displays, traditional music, drumming and other activities that promote unity and the rich cultural heritage of Anambra.
Representing Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the First Lady, Dr. (Mrs.) Nonye Soludo, the Commissioner welcomed participants and commended Golden Penny Foods for its partnership and commitment to celebrating the Anambra woman.
She described August Meeting as more than a social gathering, noting that the annual tradition provides an opportunity for women to strengthen their bonds, celebrate their heritage, support one another and reflect on their responsibilities to their families and communities.
Mrs. Onyekesi particularly urged mothers to recognise the critical role they play in shaping the character and future of their children.
The Commissioner encouraged women to guide their homes with wisdom, nurture their children with love and discipline, and serve as positive role models for the younger generation.
She reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare to supporting women and families across Anambra State, assuring that the Ministry would continue to work with women as partners in strengthening families and contributing to the development of the state.
Mrs. Onyekesi also called on women to use the August Meeting season not only to celebrate but also to reflect on their collective responsibility towards building a stronger and more prosperous Anambra.
She further appreciated the women for their participation and prayed for continued blessings upon Anambra women, families and the state.
# The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Anambra State Sector Command, has deployed personnel to strategic locations across Onitsha and its environs ahead of the temporary closure of the First Niger Bridge from September 7 to 21, 2026.
The deployment is part of proactive measures by the Corps, in collaboration with relevant stakeholders, to ensure effective traffic management, smooth vehicular movement, and the safety of road users throughout the two-week closure.
The Sector Commander, FRSC RS5.3 Anambra Corps Commander Bridget Asekhauno, disclosed this following a working visit and road audit conducted on Saturday, September 5, 2026, along major routes connecting to the Second Niger Bridge, which will serve as a major alternative route during the closure.
The exercise was conducted in collaboration with the Sector Commander, FRSC RS5.3 Anambra; Sector Head of Operations, Controller, Federal Ministry of Works, Anambra State Chapter, Engr—Emenike Timothy; his Delta State counterpart; and the Commander, Anambra State Traffic Management Agency.
The road audit focused on assessing the major routes that will facilitate vehicular movement during the closure and identifying areas requiring urgent intervention to ensure smooth traffic flow and minimize the risk of road traffic crashes.
Motorists are advised to make use of the identified alternative routes connecting to the Second Niger Bridge, including the Nkpor–Old Road–Obosi route, Onitsha–Owerri Road from Upper Iweka, and Atani Road through Uga Junction to Harbour Industrial Layout.
The Sector Commander assured the public that the FRSC, in collaboration with other traffic management agencies and relevant stakeholders in Anambra and Delta States, is fully prepared to manage traffic and respond promptly to emergencies throughout the period.
She urged motorists to plan their journeys, obey traffic rules and traffic control directives, avoid unnecessary stopping or parking along the routes, exercise patience and refrain from dangerous driving practices.
The Command also appealed to members of the public to cooperate with personnel deployed to strategic locations, noting that their support and compliance with traffic regulations are essential to achieving a safe and seamless movement of traffic during the period of the First Niger Bridge closure.
# The Anglican Church is mourning the tragic death of Rev. Chibuzor Amakom, a young priest serving under the Diocese on the Niger, who reportedly died in a fatal car acc!dent on Friday, September 4, 2026.
Rev. Amakom was said to have been ordained only about two months ago, 19th July 2026.
Before his ordination and subsequent transfer, he served at St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Nkpor and is currently serving at st Mary’s Anglican church Obosi. He was reportedly from Ukpomachi.
His sudden death has left his family, friends, fellow priests, church members and colleagues heartbroken. The young priest’s passing has also been described as a painful loss to the Anglican community, coming so shortly after he began his journey in the priesthood.
# Residents of Oraukwu in Idemili North LGA benefited from free HIV testing and other essential health services as the Anambra State AIDS Control Agency (ANSACA), in partnership with Chukwunenye Mmuoduba (Micheal Don Investment Ltd), took its grassroots health outreach to the community.
The outreach provided confidential HIV counselling and testing, hepatitis screening, TB symptom checks, blood pressure checks and health education, giving residents easier access to vital preventive health services.
The exercise forms part of ANSACA’s intensified community-based HIV response aimed at promoting early testing, prevention, timely referral and linkage to care, while ensuring that HIV services reach people closer to where they live.
ANSACA encouraged Ndi Oraukwu and Ndi Anambra to take advantage of available testing opportunities, know their HIV status and make informed decisions about their health.
# The Anambra State ICT Agency (ICTA) demonstrated the SolutionLens platform (lens.anambrastate.gov.ng) to the Ministry of Information and Value Reformation as part of efforts to strengthen government communication through technology.
The engagement, which involved the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, members of the Ministry’s management team and ICTA representatives, focused on showcasing how SolutionLens can support a more coordinated, efficient and data-driven approach to documenting and communicating government activities.
SolutionLens is a digital platform designed to help government institutions capture, organise and transform information about projects, initiatives and interventions into structured and impactful narratives for public engagement.
The platform also serves as a citizen engagement channel, empowering Ndi Anambra to see something, say something and participate more actively in governance.
During the demonstration, Onyinye Mike-Okoye from the ICTA team highlighted how the platform can support Information Officers across the state by improving information gathering, content development, project documentation and the visibility of government achievements.
The engagement also explored the next steps towards the adoption and integration of SolutionLens into the Ministry of Information and Value Reformation’s communication workflow, including discussions around operational processes, governance structure and capacity requirements needed for effective utilisation of the platform. Under the proposed framework, Information Officers across Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) will serve as designated officers responsible for managing official information on the platform, subject to approved workflows and governance processes.
Reacting to the demonstration, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, commended the platform, describing it as a solution that would help Ndi Anambra participate more actively in governance. He, however, called for the harmonisation of existing digital platforms and processes in the state to avoid duplication and ensure a seamless experience for citizens engaging with government services.
In her remarks, the Supervising Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharm. Oby Uchebo, also commended the SolutionLens platform, describing it as user-friendly and well suited to improving communication between government institutions and citizens.
# The Anambra State Commissioner for Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Prof. Charles Ofoegbu, has urged civil servants to safeguard government property and uphold workplace discipline to enhance efficiency in the public service.
Ofoegbu gave the charge during the ministry’s staff meeting held at the Ministry of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, Jerome Udoji Secretariat, Awka, where issues bordering on punctuality, accountability and commitment to duty were discussed.
He urged workers to regard government offices as a second home by protecting and maintaining public facilities with the same sense of responsibility they accord their personal belongings.
The commissioner expressed concern over the practice of some workers leaving offices without switching off electrical appliances after work, warning that such negligence could result in fire outbreaks, destruction of government property and other avoidable losses.
He also advised heads of departments to foster teamwork and maintain cordial relationships with their staff, noting that effective leadership is anchored on mutual respect, inclusion and a conducive working environment.
Speaking, the Permanent Secretary in the ministry, Mr. Tochukwu Obodogha, reminded staff that habitual lateness constitutes serious misconduct under the 2021 Public Service Rules, while absenteeism amounts to gross misconduct punishable by dismissal.
Obodogha urged workers to remain committed, dedicated and productive in the discharge of their responsibilities and assured the commissioner of the ministry’s continued support in achieving its mandate.
# The Civil Liberties Organization (CLO), Anambra State Branch, has raised alarm over the growing monetisation and commercialisation of elections, describing the trend as one of the greatest threats to democracy in Nigeria.
The organisation made the declaration during a press briefing in Awka, where it called on Nigerians to reject vote buying and selling and elect leaders based on character, competence, integrity and capacity.
In a statement signed by Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme, Chidi Mbah and Damian Ogudike, and supported by other members of the organisation, CLO urged citizens to “play politics of morality” and vote according to their conscience and conviction rather than monetary inducements, tribal, religious or clan considerations.
CLO lamented that money increasingly determines electoral outcomes instead of popularity, acceptability, character, competence and commitment to public service.
The group also urged security agencies to take proactive measures during elections by arresting and prosecuting individuals involved in offering or accepting electoral bribes.
According to CLO, Nigeria’s democracy can only thrive when citizens and political actors embrace justice, equity, patriotism, good conscience and morality, while electing leaders genuinely committed to the welfare of the people.
The organisation further appealed to citizens to come out en masse, cast their votes and protect their votes throughout the electoral process.
CLO also renewed its call on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the Continuous Voter Registration exercise and create additional electoral wards and polling units in Anambra State to improve citizens’ access to the electoral process.
# The Anambra State ICT Agency has conducted a training session for the Commissioner, Permanent Secretary, and Information Management team of the Ministry of Information and Value Reformation on the adoption and effective use of the SolutionLens platform.
The training focused on integrating the SolutionLens platform into the Ministry’s digital domain and equipping participants with the knowledge required to effectively manage and utilize the platform.
Speaking during the session, the resource person, Miss Onyinye Mike Okoye, explained that SolutionLens is a digital platform designed to promote transparency, accountability, and open governance in Anambra State. She noted that the platform enables citizens to access information on government activities and projects, ask questions, and receive timely feedback from relevant government agencies.
Welcoming the ICT Agency team to his office, the Commissioner for Information and Value Reformation, Dr. Law Mefor, expressed appreciation for the initiative. He explained that the Ministry already operates an editorial process in which news reports submitted by Information Officers are reviewed and edited before publication on the Ministry’s website to ensure accuracy, readability, and accessibility.
Dr. Mefor emphasized the need for effective collaboration between the Ministry and the ICT Agency to enhance information dissemination and strengthen direct engagement between the government and the people, ensuring that citizens remain well-informed about developments across the state.
In her remarks, the Permanent Secretary, Pharm. Dr. Obiageli Uchebo, commended the ICT Agency for the training. She stressed the importance of harmonizing digital communication efforts to achieve greater efficiency as well as widespread public sensitization to ensure that citizens, especially young people and students, become aware of and actively engage with the platform.
She further noted that training the Ministry’s editorial team would strengthen their digital capacity and improve content management on the platform.
The training featured practical sessions on digital compliance and the effective use of the SolutionLens platform.
