Nollywood actress Regina Daniels appeared in a wheelchair on Saturday to mark her birthday, telling fans that months of severe pain and limited mobility explain her long absence from social media.
In an Instagram video, the mother of two said a minor health problem had steadily worsened.
“I know many of you may be surprised seeing me in a wheelchair. Well, welcome to another chapter of my life. Let me walk you through what my life has been since many of you have asked questions about my absence,” she said.
“Lost my freedom to move”
Daniels said she had been unable to move freely for months. “For several months now, I have lost my freedom to move around as I please. It started as something minor, very minor, but eventually led to this,” she said.
Turning point after carnival
She said her condition took a turn for the worse after she hosted her children’s day carnival, the last public event she organised.
“But things took a major turn after the last public gathering I hosted, my children’s day carnival. One test after another, I jokingly started calling myself a lab rat. The pain became excruciating. Sometimes I can walk, and sometimes I can’t move. I cried,” she said.
Signs of recovery
Daniels said there had been progress. “Well, me sitting here today, in front of this camera, sharing this with y’all, it’s because there’s been some really significant developments in my recovery. And I say, thank you, Lord,” she said.
She said she was leaning on her faith and had moved closer to her children, whom she described as close to her heart. She said she first rented a property but decided to buy it after settling in.
Marriage and separation
Daniels married businessman and politician Ned Nwoko in 2019. They have two children and are in a public and contentious separation.
She ended her message with a prayer for peace in the new phase of her life, calling the occasion her “Silver Jubilee”.
