FirstPower Alerts Anambra Customers Of Drop In Electricity Allocation

The FirstPower Electricity Distribution Company Limited has alerted customers across Anambra State to a significant reduction in electricity allocation to transmission stations supplying its distribution network, warning that the development has affected supply hours across the state.

In a public notice signed by its Head of Communications, Izunna Okafor, the company disclosed that the reduction began on October 19, 2026, with a sharp decline in the combined electricity allocation to the Agu-Awka, Nibo, Awada and GCM Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations serving its network.

According to the notice, the allocation dropped from the previous level of 214.78 megawatts (MW) to 168.64MW on October 19, 153.28MW on October 20, 99.23MW on October 21, and 92.60MW on October 22.

As of the morning of Friday, October 23, the allocation remained at 92.60MW, representing an overall reduction of approximately 56.89 per cent from the previous level.

The company explained that the decline had significantly constrained the volume of electricity available for distribution to customers, affecting its ability to maintain the prescribed daily supply threshold on its feeders and resulting in fewer hours of electricity supply.

FirstPower attributed the development to the wider decline in electricity generation and supply across Nigeria, which also began on October 19.

On that day, electricity generation on the national grid reportedly fell from approximately 3,840MW at 7 a.m. to 476.70MW by 1 p.m., representing a loss of 3,363.30MW, or about 87.59 per cent, within six hours, according to data from the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) portal.

The sharp decline reportedly followed multiple trippings on the 330-kilovolt transmission network, resulting in power supply disruptions in different parts of the country.

NISO subsequently provided updates on measures to restore normal grid operations, clarifying that the incident affected only a section of the grid and did not constitute a nationwide grid collapse.

The notice added that other electricity distribution companies across the country had also reported reduced allocations from the national grid.

However, FirstPower stated that efforts were ongoing to establish the specific cause of the continued reduction in allocation to the transmission stations serving its network, expressing hope that the findings would help facilitate improvements in supply.

The company regretted the inconvenience caused by the situation to households, businesses, institutions and other electricity consumers across Anambra State.

It assured customers that it was monitoring developments and engaging relevant stakeholders to determine the cause of the reduction and facilitate improved allocation as soon as possible.

FirstPower further pledged to distribute the available electricity as efficiently and equitably as possible while working to minimise the impact of the shortfall on customers.

The company appealed for the patience and understanding of Ndị Anambra, assuring the public that further updates would be provided as the situation develops.

It reaffirmed its commitment to improved service delivery and keeping customers informed.
