# As the Sexual and Reproductive Health Rights and Communicable Diseases (SRHR/CD) Project implemented by Jhpiego in Anambra State approaches the end of its programme cycle, stakeholders have reiterated the need for sustained awareness and access to quality sexual and reproductive healthcare services across communities.
The project, funded by the Global Fund through the National AIDS and STIs Control Programme (NASCP), is being implemented by Jhpiego in Anambra, Ebonyi, Kwara and Gombe States. In Anambra, Jhpiego has partnered with the Malaria Eradication and Safe Health Initiative of Nigeria (MESHI) to implement the intervention across 15 health facilities and communities in Aguata, Idemili South and Ogbaru Local Government Areas.
The project has focused on improving awareness and access to integrated healthcare services, particularly sexual and reproductive health information and services. Key areas of intervention include family planning, screening for sexually transmitted infections, HPV vaccination for the prevention of cervical cancer, and responses to gender-based violence.
Speaking during a media engagement on Monday, October 26, 2026, the Project Officer for MESHI (Malaria Eradication and Safe Health Initiative), Ogechukwu Chinelo Onyejedum, emphasised the importance of ensuring that individuals and families are adequately informed about available health services and encouraged community members to make use of participating health facilities.
The intervention has also placed particular emphasis on adolescents and young people, encouraging them to seek accurate sexual and reproductive health information, make informed health decisions and access healthcare services without fear or discrimination.
Stakeholders noted that continued community awareness remains important beyond the programme period, particularly in ensuring that the knowledge and health-seeking practices promoted through the intervention are sustained.
Residents of the participating communities were therefore encouraged to visit their nearest participating Primary Health Centre for health information, counselling, screening, referrals and other available services.
The project further emphasised the importance of individuals taking responsibility for their health, stressing that informed choices, early access to appropriate services and community support are essential to building healthier families and stronger communities.
