The Anambra State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, Mrs. Chinyere Esther Onyekesi, has called for increased investment in skills development and economic empowerment as strategies for addressing domestic violence against women.
Mrs. Onyekesi made the call on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while officially flagging off the Jobberman Soft Skills Training and Empowerment Programme at the Dora Akunyili Women Development Centre Hall, Agu-Awka.
The programme was organised by the Women Support Women Community Network (WOSCONET), in partnership with the Ministry of Women and Social Welfare and Jobberman Nigeria, to equip young people with essential soft skills for personal development, employability and economic independence.
The Commissioner commended the Founder of WOSCONET, Amb. Mrs. Amaka Nweke, JP, and the network’s President, Comrade Mrs. Patience Ezeaku, for their commitment to empowering women and young people.
She noted that creating opportunities for women to acquire relevant skills and earn sustainable incomes could reduce financial dependence, enhance their autonomy and strengthen their ability to make informed decisions about their lives.
Mrs. Onyekesi reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to partnering with organisations and development partners working to improve the welfare of women and youths across Anambra State, in line with the vision of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
She also acknowledged the contributions of community committee members, volunteers, mobilisers and other stakeholders whose efforts had supported the implementation of the programme.
The Commissioner urged the beneficiaries to take full advantage of the training, acquire practical knowledge and apply the skills gained to improve their livelihoods, achieve greater economic independence and contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities.
