Italian side Como recorded a stunning 9-1 victory away to Lens in the Champions League on Wednesday, equalling the modern-era record for the most goals scored by a team in a single match in Europe’s elite club competition.
Greek striker Anastasios Douvikas led the rout with a hat-trick for the side coached by Cesc Fabregas. Como have now won three of their four matches in this season’s league phase.
The result matched Bayern Munich’s 9-2 win over Dinamo Zagreb in 2024. Liverpool and Real Madrid had previously recorded 8-0 victories in the group stage.
It was also the heaviest defeat suffered by a French team in the Champions League.
Como’s emphatic performance underlined their strong start under Fabregas as they continue to compete in the expanded league phase of the competition.
