…A call to stop erosion at Ekwulobia – Umunze road
Assembly plenary on Tuesday kicked off with an opening prayer by the Honorable speaker Uche Okafor, he welcomed everyone present and also recognize the presence of the national union of Anambra State student house of parliament, university of Nigeria Nsuka (UNN) who came to witness the proceedings.
On matter of public petitions, the chairman house Committee on public petitions expressed that two petitions are ready for presentation.
Hon, Ejike Okechukwu member representing Aniocha 2 constituency presented the petition captioned ‘complaint against the ongoing development in the Anambra state housing development land’ demand for the return of the land to the umuzocha community.
He stressed that the prayers of the petitioner’s is that the land be returned to the umuzocha community, the original owners of the Land for their use.
Or that umuzocha community be given the first right of refusal in the development negotiation of the land in issue.
Hon, Emeka Aforka member representing Orumba North constituency presented a petition captioned ‘complaints by natives of Umuneri village, Isu Anaocha, Awka North local government, Anambra State against Anambra State housing development cooperation.
For unlawfully and violently trespassing, entering Umuneri Land and for also destroying crops in farm, shrines and economic trees, developed plots using Militants to terrorize the community people.
Hon Uche Okafor the speaker refered this petitions to the house Committee on public petitions, he gave the committee six weeks to look into the petitions and report back to Anambra Assembly for further steps.
Also in the plenary today Hon, Emeka Aforka presented the report of Anambra state auditor general on the account of the government of Anambra State of Nigeria for the year ended 31st December 2021.
The report of the Anambra State auditor general was referred to the house Committee on public account by the speaker Hon Uche Okafor, to check the report and give feedback to the house in one week time.
The report of the auditor general for local government, on the audited annual account of the 21 local government council’s for the year ended 31st December 2021 was presented and refered to the house Committee on public account for consideration and to report back to the 7th assembly in one week time.
Hon Emmanuel Nwafor member representing Orumba south constituency moved a motion calling on the governor of Anambra State, Chief Willie Obiano to direct the commissioner for works and commissioner for environment to as a matter of urgency, engage possible means to forestall further erosion menace and threat at Ekwulobia – Umunze road. Isulo axis.
He lamented that Ekwulobia – Umunze road is the only access to major town like Umuze, Ekwulobia, Oko including the local government headquarters of Orumba North and South, even the neighbouring state Imo and Abia state.
He also cried that the road is the only access road to 3 tertiary institutions in the area, which include Federal polytechnic Oko, National open University Isulo, and Federal college of education technical Umunze .
He was concerned that the deplorable condition of the Isulo axis of this road and the golly erosion in the area is affecting the major Ekwulobia – Umunze road.
He further expressed his worry that the imminent collapse of the road will cost a lot of havoc in the area, which may affect the newly commissioned National open University Isulo.
Hon Pete Chima Ibida member representing Njikoka 2 constituency asserted that this is a pathetic situation, with a concerned heart he added that the motion moved, touched his mind adding that his wife was from the said area.
He added that the road is located in strategic area, arguing that the Federal government should have shown some concern. Though the attention should be drown through Anambra State government.
In his argument he argued that the motion came in auspicious time.
He added that the situation at hand calls for SOS save our soul.
He prayed that the governor roll out machines immediately to address the horrible situation of the Ekwulobia – Umunze road erosion.
Hon Ibuzo Edward member representing Onitsha North 2 constituency supported the motion moved by Hon Emmanuel Nwafor.
Hon Emeka Aforka member representing Orumba North constituency mentioned that the threat pose are threat to life, threat to infrastructure, threat to economic, threat to land, infact threat to everything he said.
He said if nothing is done urgently to checkmate that existential threat, and if that road eventually cuts off this means that the people of Orumba have been cut off.

Hon Godwin Nnamdi Okafor member representing Awka south 1 constituency moved a motion that the house be adjourned to Tuesday 15th day of March 2022.
Hon Carter Duke Nnamdi Umeh member representing Aguata 1 constituency seconded the motion for adjournment.
