2023: If You Will Not Support Me, Don’t Fight Me – Ekwunife Urges Anambra NUJ

I have done projects in all the 59 communities in Anambra central

The senator representing Anambra central district, Senator Uche Lilian Ekwunife, has solicited for support from the Nigeria Union of Journalist (NUJ) Anambra chapter, ANN reports.

Ekwunife who was at the Godwin Ezeemo International Press Center,  Awka to interact with the NUJ Anambra State Council led by Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu, PhD called for a level playing field.

The federal lawmaker lamented over blackmails by certain persons on social media stated that such mischief makers have gone extra miles just to drag her to the mud but that they will continue to fail.

“They fabricate and forge my letter head and signature to write all manner of things on daily basis just to demoralize and stop me but God will never let them see the light of the day. I defeated them in 2015, 2019 and I will still defeat them again on the 25th of February, 2023.

“We have to practice politics of maturity. Everyday, my billboards are being pulled down by thugs.”

Ekwunife, while listing her constituency project such as road construction, building and renovating of class rooms, building houses for widows and youth employment, restated that her passion for Ndi Anambra central zone and their well being was her priority and that she had always made sure that her senatorial district is captured at the budget.

” I have done well as a sitting senator. I’m representing 59 communities and 99 percent of the project I have executed were through lobbying. It has never happened before. I went extra miles to do that and I will continue because of the maximum support and love I saw when I was voted into office in 2015 and 2019.

“I’m contesting again because I want to consolidate on what I have been able to achieve and also follow up my bills and motions especially the local government autonomy bill which I’m passionate about.

‘Most of the killings and kidnappings happen in the local areas and local governments are supposed to be empowered to stand alone and tackle such issues. Most local government chairmen don’t have the financial capacity to tour round the communities.

“I’m working hard to ensure that I earn the trust, support and solidarity of the people I represent. I am a woman and I know what it takes for women to get to the top and that is why I’m working hard to pave way for other women.

“The essence of governance is to improve the living standard of the people which cannot be done individually but collectively.

“Without security, no society will be developed and as a lawmaker, I have put certain measures in place to achieve this goal.

“The southeast governors should work hard and ensure that they bring back peace in our region. But as citizens, we also have our responsibilities (See something, say something). Nigeria has less than five hundred thousand police men and they cannot be everywhere at the same time. it behooves on us, the citizens, to report the happenings around us.

“The local government chairmen should partner with traditional rulers and President Generals (PG) in tackling insecurity and that is why local government autonomy is important. The solar cameras in our towns will let the criminals know that they cannot escape justice. We have to be proactive when it comes to security. Let people know that government has measures in place to apprehend and punish them.

“As a lawmaker, I’m partnering with the governor of Anambra state, Professor Chukwuma Soludo, especially on the recent killings in Ifite – Awka and I’m sure he will tackle insecurity in the state.

” I visited police stations that were  burnt down and destroyed and I tried to rebuild them. Our security men also needs our support and protection.”

Earlier in his remark, Comrade Odogwu Emeka Odogwu commended Senator Ekwunife for her civility in the conduct of her campaign and wished her well in her ambition. He described her as a very smart politician and informed that NUJ is an unbiased umpire in the electoral process adding that a free and fair election is what everyone is praying for.
