* The Awka Catholic Diocese has disassociated itself from a recent homily by Rev. Fr. Cajethan Obiekezie, a priest of the diocese who preached against the Anambra State governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo during his homily, last Sunday. The priest in his homily had attacked the governor for standing against the election of the Labour Party presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi. The priest had also called on his parishioners to vote against all candidates of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, where Soludo is the party’s national leader.

* Residents of Awka have decried the productive hours they spendqueuing in banks to access the new naira notes from the Automated Teller Machines, ATM. ANN observed that queues for withdrawal of the new one thousand, five hundred- and two-hundred-naira notes from Automated Teller Machines (ATM) have persisted in various banks in Awka Metropolis causing hardship for residents. ANN who visited some of the banks along the Enugu/Onitsha expressway saw many people both old and young in queues waiting patiently to withdraw the new naira notes from their accounts

* Initiative for Advancement of the Albinism Cause (INAAC), a non-governmental organisation (NGO), has condemned social media contents promoting the stigmatisation of persons with albinism (PWAs) in the society. Founder INAAC, Miss Joy Odigie, in a press statement on the occasion of the 2023 Zero Discrimination Day, marked every year said it was worrisome that discrimination had continued to heighten against PWAs, especially due to negative content being put on the social media space

* The Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the senatorial candidate of the Labour Party for the Anambra North district, Dr Tony Nwoye, the winner of last Saturday’s senatorial election in the district. The results were declared late on Friday after sorting out the initial problems at the Ogbaru wards. The INEC Returning Officer for Anambra North, Prof. Kingsley Ubaorji of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, declared Nwoye the winner of the senatorial election at the Onitsha North Local Government Headquarters.

* The President-General of Isuofia Peoples Assembly in Aguata Local Government Area Chief Jude Chikadibia-Okeke has said that the massive road construction and re-construction going on in different parts of Anambra State is a clear indication that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is determined to transform the State. Speaking in an interview on the developmental strides of Governor Soludo, Chief Chikadibia-Okeke maintained that the Governor has through his people oriented programmes and policies restored people’s confidence in governance.

* Hon Edward Obiefuna Ibuzo (Liver To Deliver) the APGA House of Representatives Candidate for Onitsha North Onitsha South Federal Constituency and Member representing Onitsha North 2 State Constituency in Anambra State House of Assembly Awka has express gratitude to all those who stood by him and gave their support through their votes. ” We had a social contract with the people who I intend to represent, I sought for their views and opinion. Our campaign was issue based  centered on addressing the Infrastructural deficit and neglect Our Federal Constituency was facing. In all things, I must give glory to Almighty God for his guidance and protection throughout the election season till the end of the election process.”

* In preparation for the upcoming State Assembly Election, the Young Progressive Party (YPP) Nnewi North executives and Ifeanyi Ubah Foundation executive was visited by the YPP Anambra Assembly Candidate Sir Ike Edoji. He reassured YPP faithfuls and his supporters that if voted into office, he will attract the dividends of democracy to Nnewi North constituency.

* The impact of the recent naira redesign and cashless policy has continued to be felt by Ndi Anambra. One of worst hit is the highly transactional and service-oriented transportation sector which is crucial to Nigeria’s economic growth as it allows people and goods to move to their final destinations on daily basis.
