Customers still having the old five hundred and one thousand naira notes have been direct by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to deposit it at their various banks.
This directive was made in Awka by one of the senior staff of CBN who addressed the huge crowd at the Anambra branch, stating that customers with below five hundred thousand naira should pay to various banks within two days.

The crowd which comprised of mostly businessmen and women immediately after the announcement rushed to their various banks for deposit.
ANN visited First bank, Zenith bank and Fidelity banks all located at the regina junction in Awka monitored the situation.

Customers at Fidelity bank expressed disappointed as they were not allowed to deposit the old naira notes despite being directed by CBN to do so.

ANN recalls that president Muhammad Buhari in a broadcast on Thursday morning approved the continued use of the old N200 notes. Buhari who pleaded with Nigerians called for more patience stating the old N200 notes will coexist with the new N200 notes, the Nigerian leader said.
He, however, did not allow the continued use of the old N500 and N1,000 notes, only saying the CBN would continue to accept them.
